They already are required to an extent. They must screen their employees and make sure all their papers are in order or they get fined or imprisoned.I know it isn't a popular view. I'd rather see employers be required to pay a living wage than see them be required to enforce immigration policy.
how would they be required to enforce immigration policy? That is the single most stupidest answer you could have come up with.
In many jobs the "screening" consists of handing the prospective employee a paper that s/he signs saying that s/he has the right to work in the US, a cursory glance at docs, a wink and a nod, and after a year or two the fed sends the employer a paper saying there is a document/SS number discrepancy, the employee then goes to the supplier and for about $50 buys a new set of docs and they cycvle starts over.
The fraudulently documented worker applies for a tax ID number, then they get to file income tax forms and so on, separate and apart from the fraudulent documents they use for the job, and can then get mortgages, and so on! I am not quite sure, I will have to check, but I think they get earned income refunds if they have citizen children, all while illegal.
