The Republicans are pushing to give the control of education back to local parents. I don't have the faintest idea what you're babbling about giving money to rich people. Do you? Give me an example of that.
Yeah, I do.
School vouchers. They claim that with school vouchers there will be choice. Which is ridiculous. Other countries have "choice" without school vouchers.
In the UK you can send you kids to whichever school you like, you have the choice to apply to any school. Doesn't mean you'll get in, but you can apply.
Obviously there are limits on how far people are willing to travel. One city I know had bad schools, so a lot of parents shipped their kids off to a rural high school which had more students than it had residents.
Betsy de Vos is a proponent of school vouchers.
Last year, 22 states launched or expanded voucher programs. This year, 74 bills have been introduced. “Disaster always presents an opportunity,” one expert said.

"The wealthy philanthropist from western Michigan who served as U.S. education secretary under former President Donald Trump has been fighting for private school vouchers in her home state since at least 2000, when she and her family put about
$3 million behind a ballot referendum that was soundly rejected by voters."
So, school vouchers work like this. Instead of a public school getting money based on the amount of students it gets, ALL parents get given a voucher, and they can use it to send their kids to any school, including private.
Which means rich people, who can already afford to send their kids to private school, will get given money to send their kids to private school.

In Michigan the average per student is about $17,500.
So, a person who sends their kid to private school will be given $17,500 and they could use this to send their kid to a private school.
Essentially this is a way for parents who can already afford to send their kids, to get more money. They're the only ones who'd benefit from this. It seems the only reason why someone is even pushing for this. Vouchers don't seem to have any other benefit at all.
