Should Citizens Pay Taxes? OK....How Much????

The problem is fiscal conservatives kick the can down the road for decades. Never to repair, renew or replace roads, damns, bridges, tunnels or annually flooding rivers. That is leaving the dangers of rusting infrastructures to our children & grandchildren; as well as this metaphor: The higher costs of letting a leak in the roof of the house until the roof collapsed and destroys everything in the house.

We have not elected fiscal conservatives since the days of Calvin Coolidge.

Calvin Coolidge became President on Aug 2, 1923, 100 years ago this week. To compare him with the absurd fiscal conservatives today is ridiculous, IMO.

The Democrat answer to "How much in taxes?"

"Dems Poised To Make IRS Larger Than Pentagon, State Department, FBI, and Border Patrol Combined

Manchin-backed Inflation Reduction Act would more than double agency's size

If Democrats have their way, one of the most detested federal agencies—the Internal Revenue Service—will employ more bureaucrats than the Pentagon, State Department, FBI, and Border Patrol combined.

Under the Inflation Reduction Act negotiated by Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.), the agency would receive $80 billion in funding to hire as many as 87,000 additional employees. The increase would more than double the size of the IRS workforce, which currently has 78,661 full-time staffers, according to federal data.

The additional IRS funding is integral to the Democrats' reconciliation package. A Congressional Budget Office analysis found the hiring of new IRS agents would result in more than $200 billion in additional revenue for the federal government over the next decade. More than half of that funding is specifically earmarked for "enforcement," meaning tax audits and other responsibilities such as "digital asset monitoring."

Wanna see it in writing????

The attitude of the FDR government can be seen in these words of A.B. “Happy” Chandler, a former Kentucky governor: “[A]ll of us owe the government; we owe it for everything we have—and that is the basis of obligation—and the government can take everything we have if the government needs it. . . . The government can assert its right to have all the taxes it needs for any purpose, either now or at any time in the future.”

Our tax system is very civilized
….where half the people don’t pay in a penny to support the work of the federal government, and half of those are net takers - with food stamps, Medicaid, subsidized housing, etc., etc.

1) Any family consisting of a married couple where neither is working when there are 11 million unfilled jobs should not get food stamps, Medicaid, and subsidies for rent.

2) The same goes for a single mother whose youngest is 6 or more. She needs to get a part-time job or else or her government freebies are cut off.

3) Every adult with any income (which would increase by millions as a result of 1 and 2 above) will have a floor applied where 2% is taken from their paychecks and sent to the federal government. It’s time for EVERYONE to contribute.

1. To Democrats, worshippers of govenment, there are no limitations on what government can do to citizens. The Constituion is the only thing that stands in their way.
At ratification of the Constitution, the problem did not go unnoticed. They knew that some would use the phrase "general welfare" to mean anything. Madison tried to cut them off: the introduction stated that the government had the power to tax and spend what it accrued. The list of authorized powers of the federal government, Article 1, section 8,he said, summarized what the funds could be used for.

" Nothing is more natural nor common than first to use a general phrase, and then to explain and qualify it by a recital of particulars. But the idea of an enumeration of particulars which neither explain nor qualify the general meaning, and can have no other effect than to confound and mislead, is an absurdity, ... For what purpose could the enumeration of particular powers be inserted, if these and all others were meant to be included in the preceding general power?"

2. William Drayton, in 1828, came down on the side of Madison, Jefferson and others, pointing out that if Hamilton was correct, what point would there have been to enumerate Congresses’ other powers?

If Congress wished to do anything it was not authorized to do, it could accomplish it via taxing and spending.

He said, "If Congress can determine what constitutes the general welfare and can appropriate money for its advancement, where is the limitation to carrying into execution whatever can be effected by money?" '
