Before anyone gets his panties in a wad, let's rationally discuss whether Canada should become a US Protectorate. This would mean that Canada would continue to govern its internal affairs, but would not be allowed to make foreign policy decisions that are detrimental to the security interests of the US. For example, Canada's refusal to participate in North American missile defense was an intolerable stab in the back to US and North American security interests. The fact that Canada would also be protected by this system underscores the iniquitous nature of its decision. As a result, the US had to place missile protectors all around Canada without touching its sovereign soil. In legal terms, this constitutes unjust enrichment to Canada.

Should Canada be allowed to repeat this hostile action with regard to President Trump's proposed Iron Dome defense for North America? Should the US be force to pay extra $billions for protecting Canada's little piques? What if Canada decides to turn Vancouver into a Chinese port? Should the US just wring its hands and say oh well? I don't think so, and Canada has proved itself to be a greedy and unreliable junior partner when it comes to economic cooperation with the US. What other options are available for the US to maintain its own security?

You will have to decide what your policies will be towards Canada. It appears that you have taken a harder approach to market access and also intelligence sharing from what I have read.

This would mean a decreased impact on the U.S via Canadian policies. I suspect this is because you are privy to the granular details and activities occurring domestically in Canada, probably accumulated over the last number of decades culminating in the last few years of information gathering.

Not a protectorate, they should become a US territory with future statehoods available only after being fully assimilated to the US Constitution.

That's the type of end game that Saint Donald was pitching .
Our thick as planks Troll Bots could not figure that at all .

Horsey thinks Protectorate means a Saddle .

Maybe Trump could rename Canada “New Israel!”

Canada is already essentially a protectorate of the United States.

Hey, all. Let’s think this through. If the US were to annex Canada and Greenland, someday down the road, the expansion might eventually include Great Britain.

Wouldn’t that be a cool historical irony. 😎

No, hell no!

Understand that Canada is our friend...........but now it is time to prove it!

The best thing that could happen is------------>all tariffs are dropped between the 2 countries, Canada remains Canada, they cut deals to get a slice of the economic pie in the USA, and we all just go along. For ANYONE to believe that Canada can not compete in many areas, is a joke. Canada can, they will, but because of their national healthcare, it will not be in manufacturing autos, etc. BUT, they WILL become very rich by exploiting what they have.

Truth/fact is-------->we have to solve this little tiff with Canada ASAP. The ones BOTH countries have to address, is MEEEEHHHHHHICCCOOO!

Canada has a very stable government, and it works for its citizens. Mexico does NOT! It is controlled by drug cartels.

Call me/us stupid, but if I am aligning with one of them, it is 90% Canada. Sure we want Mexico to come in too, but before we let them in our circle, they have to do what Trump.........and Canada, want them to do!

No, a territory would mean that Canadians would be exempt from paying US income taxes (like Puerto Rico). Let them keep their wonderful health care system, as long as they don't play games with US national security.

Only if they end-up deciding it's what they want to do, or if they decide that they're better-off that way.

Canada and the US share the longest unfortified border in the world... for goodness' sake... let's keep it that way.

Perhaps someday we'll see an Anglo -centric
North American Union of some kind, but let's not do that by force, eh?

I would be happy with a true free trade zone. How about you?

Yes, I would........but some Canadians do not want it. We can work it out, but we have to work it out together.

By what right or purpose of right does the U.S. have to make such a claim. Canadians oppose such action

Sure, I'd like the lowest tariffs possible for everyone. Each nation has a few key industries so I don't know how it works with such key industries.

Trump has decided he is going to force back manufacturing come hell or high water and he has at least four years to achieve this. The hand of G-d protected him so he is going to do it his way and remain loyal to this approach.

If Canada had believed in our Charter of Rights and defended it thoroughly as the U.S defends their Constitution we would be in excellent shape economically and otherwise right now. We sided more with China in terms of our system and abuses of citizens than we did America and this is definitely known through your State Department and intel agencies. I guarantee it.

Protecting the S.I.C and abusive nepotism and kakistocracy at what cost?

They ensured the loss of multiple careers, destroyed my relationships and soon I am going to lose my home as these criminals so desired. This is NOT a country that practices what it preaches.

Cheap-Labor Zone. Free Traders Are Traitors.

Those who run businesses ignore the fact that it is their employees who make the business run. We created their jobs and their wealth. We are sick of the superior attitude of the sissies in suitcoats.

why? The fuckers don't pay for their own defense now. We shouldn't give them shit ..... Now if we actually could shoot down re-entering MIRV warheads so they land on Canada and not us ..... I'm all for that.

What hostile action? Canada will do what is in its best interest.

We don't get a say.
