In some cities you can shoplift pretty much all you want with no consquences. I don't know what the situation is in this instance regearding shoplifting but no business can afford to keep taking those loses forever so the business owner or employee taking matters into their own hands is not that surprising. Honestly I'm surprised this has not happened more often.

All I ever hear of is a guy with a cellphone shot several times on the ground face down in a pool of blood with three cops continuing to drive slugs into his unmoving, unarmed body when he can't possibly be any kind of threat to them until they empty their magazines with 30 rounds in him.

That guy with a cellphone was a threat.....he may have had a gun, he may have lunged at the officers....they had to do what they had to do to protect themselves.....
