Pneumonia brings Hillary Clinton's health back as hot issue
Sep. 12, 2016 | WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton's stumbles as she left a 9/11 memorial ceremony put her health at the forefront of a presidential campaign in which the two major party nominees are among the oldest ever and have disclosed a limited amount of information about their medical history.
The Democratic presidential nominee "felt overheated" Sunday and left the ground zero ceremony after about 90 minutes, her campaign said. A video of her departure shows Clinton appearing to stumble as three staff members hold her up and help her into a van. While the former secretary of state later emerged from her daughter's nearby apartment, saying she was "feeling great," the episode focused attention on Clinton's health with eight weeks remaining in a contentious election in which Republican rival Donald Trump has sought to sow doubts about her health and fitness to serve.

Trump has repeatedly questioned Clinton's health, telling supporters last month she "lacks the mental and physical stamina" to serve as president and fight Islamic State militants. The billionaire businessman also attended Sunday's memorial, and said "I don't know anything" when asked about Clinton. It's an accusation that Clinton has sought to play off as a "wacky strategy" from Trump and evidence that he embraces an "alternative reality." She poked fun at the idea during an appearance on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" last month, jokingly opening a pickle jar as proof of her vigor.

Despite the intense focus on Clinton falling ill on Sunday, Arthur Caplan, a bioethicist at New York University Langone Medical Center, said the moment told voters little about Clinton's physical fitness. "There are plenty of people who may stumble around on a hot humid day for lots of reasons," Caplan said. "Without examining, without having the history ... you don't have a basis to say anything." In 2008, Republican nominee John McCain made public more than a thousand pages of his medical history to show he was cancer-free and fit to serve as president at age 71. Neither Clinton nor Trump has released anything approaching that level of detail.

Dr. Lisa Bardack, an internist who has been Clinton's personal doctor since 2001, released a two-page letter in July 2015 that said Clinton was in "excellent physical condition and fit to serve as president of the United States." Trump's gastroenterologist, Dr. Harold Bornstein, wrote a four-paragraph letter claiming Trump would be "the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency." He later told NBC News it took him just five minutes to write it. While Clinton has released more information than Trump, Caplan said neither candidate has offered voters a sufficient record. He said that ideally, presidential nominees should allow an independent panel to assess their health.

Pneumonia diagnosis fuels questions about Clinton's health
Sep. 12, 2016 — For weeks, Hillary Clinton dismissed questions about her health as little more than a conspiracy theory, part of a "wacky strategy" cooked up by rival Donald Trump as he embraced an "alternative reality."
Those concerns are now unavoidable, made real by Clinton's abrupt departure Sunday from a 9/11 anniversary ceremony and a video showing the Democratic nominee staggering and eventually slumping forward before being held up by three people as she was helped into a van. The damage was compounded by the nearly eight hours of silence from Clinton and her team about the health scare, as well as the Sunday evening disclosure she had been diagnosed on Friday with pneumonia. Clinton's doctor said the 68-year-old former secretary of state "became overheated and dehydrated" at the 9/11 ceremony at ground zero. After an exam at her home in suburban New York, said Dr. Lisa R. Bardack, Clinton "is now rehydrated and recovering nicely."

But less than two months from Election Day, it was a problematic visual for Clinton as she tries to project the strength and vigor needed for one of the world's most demanding jobs. Late Sunday night, she called off plans to travel to California for two days of fundraising, campaign events and an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show. No longer can Trump's questions about her physical stamina be summarily dismissed. The episode was also sure to fuel a vocal group of online conspiracy theorists, deemed "healthers" by some Clinton supporters, who frequently point to videos and photos of Clinton as evidence of her poor health. Both candidates, who've released limited health records, are likely to now face calls to release more detailed information about their physical fitness.

The incident compounds an already difficult time for Clinton as the presidential race enters its final stretch. Despite Trump's numerous missteps, the race remains close and many Americans view Clinton as dishonest and untrustworthy. On Friday, Clinton told donors that "half" of rival Donald Trump's supporters are in a "basket of deplorables" — a comment that drew sharp criticism from Republicans. Clinton later said she regretted applying that description to "half" of Trump's backers, but stuck by her assertion that the GOP nominee has given a platform to "hateful views and voices."

Clinton's public day began when she arrived at the 9/11 memorial in lower Manhattan. She intended to stay until about 10:30 a.m., but left an hour earlier than planned. She'd spent about 90 minutes standing with other dignitaries in the sun on a warm and humid day. "Hillary and I chatted for quite a while about our remembrances of 9/11 and our families," said New York Sen. Chuck Schumer. "It was pretty hot out there, but she seemed fine to me, and left on her own accord."

Doctors: Pneumonia is serious but Clinton should bounce back
September 11, 2016 — Hillary Clinton's diagnosis of pneumonia is a serious concern, but something from which she soon should recover, several doctors and medical experts said Sunday.
Clinton, 68, unexpectedly left a 9/11 anniversary ceremony in New York after she became "overheated and dehydrated," her doctor said. Clinton went to her daughter's nearby apartment for a short stay, and emerged before noon to tell reporters, "I'm feeling great." Several hours later, Clinton's physician said the Democratic presidential nominee was diagnosed on Friday with pneumonia. "She was put on antibiotics, and advised to rest and modify her schedule," said Dr. Lisa R. Bardack, an internist who practices near Clinton's suburban New York home. Bardack added in a statement that Clinton, after an exam Sunday afternoon at her home, "is now rehydrated and recovering nicely." A look at pneumonia and Clinton's health history:

WHAT IS PNEUMONIA?

Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs. Often it's a bacterial infection that sweeps in after a cold or flu virus. Each year, about 1 million people in the United States seek hospital care because of pneumonia, and it causes tens of thousands of deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A presidential candidate is at high risk for such an infection, said Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease expert at Vanderbilt University. "Candidates are constantly out in enclosed spaces, face to face with myriads of people," he said. "It's an ideal opportunity for the transmission of a respiratory virus." Added Dr. Stephen Hargarten, head of emergency medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin: "I'm not surprised to hear this happen to someone engaged in the kind of frenetic schedule she has."

HOW IS IT TREATED?

Pneumonia is commonly treated quickly and effectively with antibiotics. Speaking generally and not about Clinton's case, Schaffner said patients with a mild pneumonia can recover with antibiotics, a few days of rest and good hydration. That's especially true of someone who does strenuous work, such as a rigorous campaign schedule. Based on the available information, he said, "this should not in any way impede her function going forward." But Clinton does need to take it seriously, some experts said. People over age 65 have a harder time returning to normal than do younger patients. Many people her age need a week or more to recover from even a mild case of pneumonia, said Dr. Sharon Bergquist, an Emory University assistant professor of medicine who specializes in internal medicine. "The body needs rest. The more she pushes, the harder it is for her to recover," she said.

CLINTON'S RECENT HEALTH ISSUES

Clinton had a coughing fit while campaigning in Cleveland early last week. It was dismissed by her aides as allergies and by Clinton herself at that moment as stemming from "talking so much." It's possible Clinton may have assumed that symptoms from an earlier viral infection were due to allergies, Schaffner said. Clinton takes antihistamines, which can "dry you out," and dehydration leads to a person being susceptible to heat exhaustion, Bergquist said. Add in the possibility of fever, shortness of breath or other possible symptoms from pneumonia, and you have a constellation of factors that could have explained her feeling weak on Sunday, she said.

Someone called it a 'louie'. I laughed.

The thing is we don't know what's going on with her because they lie all the time.

Hillary could die and she would still beat Trump.
Looks like your opinion might be put to the test.
I've been predicting on this forum for months that Hillary will quit for 'health reasons'.
Looks like she may beat Bill to the 'Pearly Gates'.
A 26er of Bombay gin every day for decades can do that.

" Trump the bitch".

Two angles on the same issue. Issue 1, She DID fully collapse before getting into the van. You can watch her taking a header on this video.

Issue 2, The collapse may have been caused by her metal leg brace breaking.

If the option is Birfer Trump, you are correct.

A dead Hillary would still be a better President than an alive Orange Jesus.

No doubt you're serious. Your ilk really are stupid enough to vote for a corpse. Seriously.
