WASHINGTON – Yesterday, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) introduced the Shutdown Fairness Act to ensure that hardworking Americans are paid during government shutdowns. This legislation would appropriate funds for pay and allowances of excepted federal employees for periods of work performed during a lapse in appropriations, and for other purposes.

“With Democrats continuing the Schumer Shutdown, they should at least agree to pay all the federal employees that are forced to continue working. The 2025 Shutdown Fairness Act is a permanent fix that will ensure excepted workers and our troops are paid during a shutdown,” Sen. Johnson said.

Sen. Johnson was joined by U.S. Senators Ted Budd (R-N.C.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), James Risch (R-Idaho), Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), and Todd Young (R-Ind.).

Full text of the legislation can be found here.

It's only four pages which is amazing. It gets to the point in this paragraph:

So, it is an ad hoc appropriation by Congress (after it passes) and would pay federal emplees and contractors who are expected to keep working during "shutdowns."

I assume it will pass quickly. I cannot imagine who might oppose this.

Unless the House can do it on their own without Senate approval you know damn well the vile dems will vote no.

BTW.....The Senate (vile dems) on Monday voted against reopening the federal government for the 11th time, pushing the shutdown to the three-week mark with both sides at loggerheads and unable to break the impasse.

Now you go too far, Sir!

Surely you cannot be suggesting that Senate Dems would withold paychecks from federal workers, merely as a part of some strategy to force Republicans to bow to their will!

It's too horrible to contemplate, Democrats and "not Democrats" in the Senate taking food out of the mouths of the children of hardworking EPA Auditors, IRS Accountants, National Park Rangers, and the Weighers and Measurers at the Bureau of Weights and Measures (or whoever they got working there).

Crepitus, I see you are avidly reading my threads as usual.

Please post some of the Senate Dems who are enthusiastically supporting paying federal workers, so my friend 1srelluc can see how he has misjudged you and your ilk!

This isn't a thread, and that not a serious bill.

So, it is TRUE?!?! Democrats and "not Democrats" really are evil enough to oppose paying fedemps? That's like me having a dispute with my neighbor and he takes his own children hostage to force me to comply.

Apologies, 1srelluc. It turns out you are correct. Democrats and "not Democrats" really are this cruel. Cruelty for the sake of cruelty.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) said Monday he opposes a Senate Republican bill to extend pay to troops and some federal workers during the government shutdown.

Why it matters: Jeffries' opposition suggests the legislation would have a tough time passing the House if it makes it out of the Senate.

  • At issue for Democrats is that the bill pays only workers who have not been furloughed as part of the government shutdown.
  • Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) told reporters Monday that he would bring the bill up for a vote in the House if it passes the Senate.
Driving the news: Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) placed the Shutdown Fairness Act on the Senate calendar last week, teeing it up for a vote as soon as this week.

Well . . . even if the bill does not end up passing so they can pay essential federal workers, at least it will show these horrible people in their true light.

So, federal employees would get paid for not working while their agencies are shut down?

No!

It would only cover essential employees who are working through the "shutdown."

Hopefully, the non-essential employees and the "remote working: employees will get one last severance check and that's it.

Hopefully.

Demoncrats! They lose their victims if we pay them. Shutdowns will occur all the time if there are no victims except their non-essential government workers. If they are out of work, they will lose what few government employee voters they have.

Today the bill was brought up again with the addition of fuloughed workers as well as workers who have been required to work for free so far in this Democratic shutdown.

This weasel:

Democratic Senator Gary Peters. Look at that sneering mug. That face says, "I'm getting paid. How about you? Brah-ha-ha-ha-ha!"

He blocked the Republican efforts at fairness.

Look at him lie and pretend that he does not hate fedemps much more than I ever could. He'll come up with excuse after excuse to not pay them.
