Senate GOP Wants to Sell 3 Million Acres of Public Land

That is one way in which the Federal government raised money in the early decades of the nation, they sold land.
If You Don't Work It, You Can't Own It

The anti-democratic government sold it to plutocratic speculators. They should have given it to whoever would homestead it and get revenue from taxing production.

Jim Bowie forged title documents. He was right to do that, considering how wrong land sales were.

LOL...."We the People" can be awful stupid at times....Look at the dem loons who are elected.

Thing is you have to ride heard on the gop chamber of commerce types because they never saw a patch of land they did not want to either sell or build upon.
A whole lotta BLM land in the central Rockies would be far better off and better tended to in the hands of ranchers.

We have a park near my home. I paid $60 a year to take my dog to the dog park and the trails behind the park. Great place. Well, we must have voted to make it free to get in. Now EVERYONE pays a little. Use the park or not, now you are paying. But now we don't have to pay to man a person at the gate to check and see if someone has a pass. So they are probably saving a lot doing it this way.

I see both sides of this. The people who use the park should pay for the park. Why is my neighbor paying for a park they never use? I get it. But it also improves that person's property and community.

Personally, now cheap assholes who don't train their aggressive dogs can come in for free. I liked the $60 fee because it kept the riff raff out.

But I hated the long line if even one person needs to pay. It takes 5 minutes to pay. And she isn't smart enough to tell other people to go around. *****!
All things must be reasonable if available. We have seen many ways of living traverse from the private side to the public side. Some even reverse. Public areas can be moneymakers. People using them can mess those areas up. Areas have beach tags. We see rising violence on boardwalks now. Ahh, we know where that comes from. Perhaps there will be boardwalk tags eventually.

Meister @sageofwallstreet

I’ll give you an example of why some things shouldn’t be privatized. Elon gets in a fight with trump and threatens to leave people stranded in space. Too much power in one mans hands. No kings!

Thinking on it a bit I've seen how people leave the BLM ranges.....Shot-up trash everywhere.....Sigh, maybe you are correct but the ranchers should not profit from public land no more than they already do.

They improve the land to accommodate the cattle, and have to leave the improvements behind.

Two weeks ago, House Republicans removed a controversial budget provision to sell half a million acres of public lands. The outdoor recreation industry, including national organizations and heavyweight brands like Patagonia and The North Face, helped raise a chorus of protest against the unprecedented move to sell off federal land used by hikers, mountain bikers, climbers, and paddlers.

For many longtime advocates of the outdoors, the idea that Congress would willingly sell off 500,000 acres of public land seemed hard to believe.

Now, Senate Republicans have proposed an even more extreme version of the same idea: Selling off more than 3.3 million acres of federal land in 11 Western states. That’s roughly four times the size of Rhode Island.

For now, American sportsmen have turned their attention to Senate Majority Leader John Thune who hunters know as one of their own and who represents their best hope of stripping the land sale provision from the bill.

The gop is once again trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by being on the wrong side of a 80/20 issue.

Selling of ~3 million acres of federal BLM and FS land in 11 western states is no way to endear themselves to the populace out that way....Why, so even more liberals from the left coast can ruin states like they did CO?

You can thank establishment “chamber of Commerce” GOPe types like Mike Lee who likes to masquerade as anti establishment MAGA.

Never-ever trust Mike Lee....Never.
Insanity. The national parks are an American treasure.

Most of them string wire on branches and that's about it. It's not really "improving the land".

Only Degenerates Respect Play More Than Work

The leisure class cares nothing about us, the people. We, in turn, should care nothing about their decadent desire to turn vital undeveloped resources into a playstation.
YOu never take a day off and go camping or hiking or anything?

So China can buy even more US land?

We need to buy back all the foreign owned land.
So if selling some land gets us the cash to buy back land around US bases, great.

Maybe just auction off the Chinese owned land and make up the difference?
The very point I was about to bring up.

What's wrong with people owning that land instead of the Federal government?
I don't get it. :dunno:

We were given land early on... homesteads, and the government paid our serving soldiers of wars, revolutionary and the war of 1812, Indian wars... with land.

Depending on the private business buying it, destroying the land, meant to be preserved, for all of us.

Jane, you ignorant slut, that's not what they're doing. It would be better in private, conservation minded hands.
As of right now they routinely clear cut the trees and sell them and the government gets the money. Total rapage of the land. I know. They did it to a spot I hunted for decades.
They even mowed down the oak tees and just left them for harvesting the pines.
Conservation my ass, it's nothing but a scam. People should make that money, not the government.

Break into 40 acre plots, round up some BLM burrows, hand it over to qualifying negros and call it good on reparations.
Sounds like a solid plan. Also whoever wants to buy them can.
No big corporations though.
