Just when you thought it was over..it ain't over.

Speaker Mike Johnson is trying to build Republican support for a short-term bill that would fund all Department of Homeland Security operations through May 22, after the Senate passed a deal overnight that left out money for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and some dollars for Customs and Border Protection.

The Louisiana Republican shared the plan on a House GOP Conference call shortly after noon Friday, honoring a commitment he made to members of the House Freedom Caucus earlier in the day that he would pursue a path out of the extended DHS shutdown that didn’t involve punting on funding for immigration enforcement activities.

There is no guarantee this plan will have support in the House, where GOP centrists are already balking at the proposal, according to four people granted anonymity to share their direct knowledge of the trajectory of negotiations Friday afternoon.

It’s also highly unlikely this gambit would pass in the Senate, which has already left town for a two-week recess. Republicans would need to rely on the other chamber approving the measure through a unanimous consent agreement — and Senate Democrats are warning they’ll reject it.

“A 60 day CR that locks in the status quo is dead on arrival in the Senate, and Republicans know it,” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer in a statement Friday afternoon. “We’ve been clear from day one: Democrats will fund critical Homeland Security functions — but we will not give a blank check to Trump’s lawless and deadly immigration militia without reforms.”

What a stupid system where the house chamber charged with passing budgets to fund the government endlessly squabble over funding existing departments. Either eliminate the DHS fully as intended or eliminate the department. How silly that a group of politicians can hold government hostage--- hostage to stop them from losing the illegal vote so they can monopolize elections.

What a crappy system that government holds no procedure to deal with such a maneuver. Once again, the GOP has no hand, no leverage, no balls, and the Dems are never going to vote to pass any bill that again funds the DHS or ICE. Made all the dumber by the fact that through this, they all get to keep collecting their paychecks and even take off on vacations.

or...they could vote to put body-cams on ICE agents, outlaw masks, and require that agents be fully LEO trained and certified.

But I guess that's a non-starter eh?

It's a damn shame we just can't start over again....Maybe choose representatives by a draft lottery.

I'm not saying that it would not be a cluster-**** but damn, it would have to be better than what we have.

Yes. If your life and family were threatened, would you want to be easily identified?

I would want a different job---I'm thinking that this is the point here, in the end.

If you need to be masked to hide from public accountability--that is, in itself, a problem~

Nice self gut punch little Mikey.

Time for another discharge petition?

Masks are required to prevent doxing of agents to protect their families.
body-cams are approved
ICE rules are different than LEO rules
Court orders are non-starters too

I wish we had a parliamentary system like Europe where we could call a snap election or have a nationwide vote of no confidence and fire all of their asses at once.

The audacity of these ******* people to upend and burden the lives of millions of Americans for their own personal pissing matches.

This isn't about accountability. This is about threats of violence and death. Wise up.

I have no problem with any of that except for the masks. Democrats made the masks necessary by threatening to doxx any agent they can identify. Pretty funny really considering that just a few years ago, democrats were suing people to MAKE them wear masks.

But consider, is anything on your list really justifiable cause to crash the government, topple the airline industry, leave thousands without any income, wreck the lives of millions who need to travel and to risk a national security disaster and terrorist attack in a time of war?

Really? Because you want cameras on ICE agents to make sure they aren't being too mean in arresting criminals? :shok:

GMAFB.

So do the pols get 2-weeks off or do they stay in DC and work on Bills?

Are we back to Trump paying TSA agents?
