I believe in having a rifle and pistol in the same caliber....might look at a 9mm semi-auto rifle....not a hunting gun but a varmint game-changer at 100 meters.

However, the lack of readily available subsonic loads led me elsewhere. To where I ended up an addict of the .300 Blackout, a caliber as capable of 500m lethality and accuracy as it is extreme close range personal defense. And it is quite handy for silently punching squirrel tickets right out my back door when they come for my mulberries. In a sidearm I carry 9mm+P or 10mm depending on the needs of the day, with longer barrels.

I carried an Ithaca 37 and an M-79 grenade-launcher in my tour in the ROV....and a Ruger .357 sidearm....back then I wouldn't trust anything but a wheel gun but I've slowly adapted to lugers. The 8 shot is actually a machine gun when it's slam-fired. 8 shells, 9 DO pellets in .33 caliber (with a duckbill)....no M-16 with a 20 round magazine can lay out 72 rounds in any where near the time I could with my Ithaca. They required me to carry the CAR-15 toward the end when my Recon team was dissolved....No range, no punch, worthless.

We seem to be running off topic, but allow me to further digress. I served with the Diplomatic Security Service from 2007-2012. Doesn't matter now because the DSS has changed protocol several times, but during those years we carried, under most conditions, weapons chambered in 5.7x28mm—ones heavily modified by our armorer and custom loads unavailable to civilians. I've never been a shotgun man, myself . . . unless we're talking hunting pheasant. Then it's got to be 16 gauge all the way. I inherited a pair of such break open bird guns from my grandfather. However I did serve with other agents who carried the USAS-12 for special applications and were quite adept at changing out drums of various ammo types to meet arising defensive needs.

Trump is BIG on a boost to the travel industry (for obvious reasons) which is really hurting. Folks without masks are being tossed off airliners again and who wants to take a cruise being a captive with hundreds of potential Virus carriers out on the ocean? I'd like to take a short trip up to Gunnison, Colo.....Black Canyon is beautiful in summer and maybe to Boulder to look up an old girlfriend and murder her husband (just kidding). I'm retired if it's any of your business. I didn't need the first check and don't need a second one but only a fool turns up his nose on found-money. I guess I could mail the money back to the Treasury like Trump does his Presidential salary like Perot before him his SS checks. We're going broke anyway so who cares how far in debt we get before we default? Before Barry tacked $10T on the debt we had a chance to pay it down/off...not after that.

Until the July monsoons hit...it's worse now in Phoenix because we're a "heat island" with thermals rising off the asphalt and glass buildings. A rain storm comes along and either gets blocked or disappears or goes around us or turns into a dust-storm. I have no idea why I still live here.
