Second hand Hybrid and EV market

Well, some EV's depreciate over $600 per day!! Won't take long for them to be cheaper than a new battery.

Forcing the manufacturers to give life time warranty on batteries will just make them go bust.
Or make them stop building them completely.

Is it going to be viable?

This chap looked at the second hand market on a BMW 330e, 8 year old, and priced cheaply (as BMW's go) at £7,500.

So he enquired with the MBW dealership that if the main Hybrid battery needs replaced, how much would it cost? The answer being £10,000 -

Personally, I would never own a hybrid or EV, and the risk factor on wallets and purses with second hand versions possibly wanting a replacement battery, just not viable.

There's probably ways to get around that. Depends on the complexity and proprietariness of their system.
I would like see a very small turbo diesel powering a large electric drive system with a battery system and some capacitors in between to keep things smooth. To where you could just pull over and let the diesel run to charge it
to full. Weight is everything, though.

Eventually fuel cell technologies will not rely upon precious metals.
that will be the game changer. I do not care if you want one. Your car, your choice
Sure. Fuel cells are great. The issue is the hydrogen. Most abundant element in the universe. Too bad it readily chemically bonds with other atoms. Even worse that breaking that chemical bond costs more in energy than the hydrogen provides.

But you didn’t answer the question. We do you think EV’s are or should be the future.

Because that's the party line. :terror:

Most e-cars cars these days do not use fuel cells at all. They use battery packs.
Hundreds of cells in series and parallel to get the desired output. Lots of "moving parts".

In 25 years or so they’ll be laughing at us and our gasoline powered cars.

Maybe, maybe not. Once X amount of torque and speed is necessary, batteries are not the best
choice at the moment.
Batteries are OK for things like anywhere from RC drones to 2-person light vehicles,
anything heavier than that, and the battery weight needed vs. speed and power slopes steadily down.

Fuckwad
What is it about them that should make us want them?

You didn’t answer the question, dummy. Apparently you believe EV’s are the future for no reason at all.
