But those who do own land in Boston are free to decide who uses their property and who does not. That is where the cops come in. They will remove the trespassers. Whether those trespassers simply relocate or whether they go to jail is likely determined by their cooperation with law enforcement.

In the United States, rights can be taken away through the process of law, and narrow exceptions are allowed. I see no connection with denying someone guilty of mail fraud who has served his time with denying him the right to own a gun. But I absolutely see a connection to denying someone who has been guilty of a crime associated with a weapon the right to own a gun.

And as far as Constitutionality- the Supreme Court agrees with me- and if you don't agree with the Supreme Court- well thats fine- but their opinion legally matters- and yours is just your opinion.

Your quote says it all... Nothing in their "opinion(s)". The opinions of the Supreme Court are seldom unanimous proving that they are just opinions. One vote, one way or another, and their opinion goes another way. Even so, they explicitly excluded those other restrictions from their opinion because those issues were not before them.

There are really not many, but enough, cases where the Supreme Court has reversed itself. As I stated elsewhere, did the constitutionality of a thing change when they reversed themselves? Did the Constitution, itself, change? No; the "opinion" of the Court changed. They do not determine the constitutionality of a thing; they rule on the case before them and, in support of the case before them, they give opinions on the constitutionality of the key questions that got the case before them in the first place.

For the first 145 years of our country, Congress never considered that they had the power to pass a gun law. It was unconstitutional and they knew it. The left took advantage of the gang environment created by prohibition to act on their (the left's - as in Democrats) racism to pass the National Firearms Act, intended to keep powerful firearms out of the hands of black people but not out of richer whites.

For 149 years, there was no ban on felons owning guns - Congress knew it was unconstitutional. Felons got out of prison and their guns were waiting at home where they were supposed to be.

Only after 149 years, with the passage of the Federal Firearms Act in 1938, did Congress get the idea they could ban violent criminals from having firearms. It took another 30 years, until 1968, before the government thought they could get away with banning ALL felons from having firearms.

It was never constitutional, and the government always knew it wasn't constitutional.

Since I don't know you, I can't guess your political leanings and offer cases that you might consider unconstitutional regardless of what the Court says but I'll bet you know of decisions by the Court where you believe they incorrectly interpreted the Constitution. Share a few, would you please?

Let me address your last point first.
Certainly I think that the Court was wrong in many decisions- most notoriously Dredd Scott(though Jitler would probably agree with that court decision)- and much more recently Citizens United.
However, regardless of whether I agree or not- it is the decision of the Supreme Court which determines what is Constitutional or not. I have my opinion, you have your opinion- history will have an opinion- but in the end only two opinions matter- the legal opinions of the majority of the Supreme Court Justices- or the opinions of the majority of Americans expressed through the Amendment process.

As far as the rest of your argument- thanks for the history run down- whether or not Congress in 1880 considered prohibiting felons from owning firearms again to be unconstitutional is really pretty irrelevant- since Congress did eventually pass the bill, and the Supreme Court has upheld it. You may consider this to be a guns rights issue- but I consider this to be a ex-felons rights issue- in that I consider it in light with their re-enfranchisement.

Remember- it is the right- the Republicans- who are actively trying to thwart the will of voters in Florida- who voted to re-enfranchise felons who have served their time. But the Republicans who control the State legislature have multiple times tried to prevent that from happening and even are contemplating changing the State's initiative law so voters can't do that again. So this is not just a right or a left issue. Oh but it gets better- Republicans in Florida have tried to change the law to make it easier for felons to own guns- but harder for them to vote. How is that for consistency?

I happen to agree with the Supreme Court that individual rights can only be denied under very narrow circumstances that are clearly defined, and have a specific purpose. That is why I support felons being able to own guns again as long as they didn't commit a crime involving a weapon. If that bothers you, I can live with that.

I will attempt to elaborate. You and I and every American has our opinions on what is Constitutional and what is not. Everyone has an opinion. Shockingly we don't all agree, and that means some of us are wrong- and hopefully some of us are correct. Beyond that- we have our State and Federal legislatures which pass laws. Some of those laws are constitutional. Some of the laws are not constitutional. We have administrations that issue regulations and executive orders.

Within our system the only way to challenge the Constitutionality of a law or a regulation is by going through the courts- and ultimately the Supreme Court of the United States determines whether something is Constitutional under the U.S. Constitution.

Again- you and I may disagree with the courts- with the Supreme Court- but your opinion- and my opinion- are ultimately just our opinions. The opinion of the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of a law is the legal interpretation of Constitutionality. I still think that the courts were wrong in concluding that corporations and unions should be treated as legal people when it comes to political activity- but my opinion has no legal bearing.

If I disagree with the Courts interpretation my primary means for addressing that is the amendment process- such as the 14th Amendment which directly eliminated the Dred Scott decision. Or for example in the case of Federal gun laws- to advocate a change in the law itself. The right controls the Senate- what are the Republicans doing to help ensure that Jitler can legally own a gun?

And if you look at economic factors, being raised in a poor household will see almost the same percentages. Being poor is the problem more than having two parents.

Not near all divorces are for domestic violence. No one is trying to suggest any person should stay in a violent home situation. But there needs to be more commitment to each other, more willingness to give to a marriage. As a father and husband, I agree that there should be more commitment to each other and more willingness to give to a marriage.
