The prime reason for the high mortality rate here in the US is due to the poor immigrants who don't partake of the health care that is available to them, and to the fact that many women over 40 are having children, after they have gotten their careers going. I disagree. As capitalism is wildly unstable. And the constant boom and bust cycle can be hell on the common man. Worse, unrestricted capitalism can quickly degenerate into monopoly. Either regional or national. As those with economic leverage use it against those without. Be they consumers or competitors.

With worker protections, some method of cooling booms and softening busts (like, central banking), a social net to catch workers in during the bust, and restrictions on anti-competitive practices.....and capitalism is pretty awesome. I use it to make my own living.

I have actually had day surgery today and was very well treated. What would set me back $25k in the US cost me £2 up front to park my car. The whole thing paid for by my taxes and those of my neighbours.
