The award celebrates officials who choose the public interest over partisanship, “who do what is right, rather than what is expedient.”

Sally Yates took a stand for something she believed in, and one of her fellow Americans thanked her by nominating her for a prestigious award for public officials.

President Donald Trump fired the former acting attorney general on Monday night for refusing to defend his recent executive order suspending refugee resettlement and banning entry of individuals from seven predominantly Muslim countries.

Yates was fired after she advised Justice Department lawyers also not to defend Trump’s executive order. She wrote them a letter saying she wasn’t “convinced that the defense of the executive order is consistent with these responsibilities, nor am I convinced that the executive order is lawful.”

People around the country and the internet have come out to show their support for Yates, and the hashtags #ThankYouSally, #ThankYouSallyYates and #SallyYates were all trending on Twitter.

But one act of appreciation stands out above the rest.

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) tweeted out Tuesday afternoon that she had nominated Yates for the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award.

She deserves the Douche Bag Snowflake of the Year award. She had a duty to carry out the President's orders. She's guilty of insubordination.

Good. We're going to need a whole lot more like her to defend the nation from Trump's tyranny.

Every leftwing mole in the Trump administration will soon be replaced if they are political appointees or reassigned to fill in coloring books if otherwise.

Not likely since Trump and his advisors are incompetent buffoons

How fitting that she is awarded a commendation named for a man who passed out drunk on a patrol boat at night and got rolled over by an enemy ship. Both let their country down both failed to do their duty.

This is great news. Yates should also be given the honor of turning the key to the door that locks Donald Trump into federal prison for the rest of his natural born life.

Reminiscient of obummers Nobel "Peace" prize. Equally undeserved.

The termination of Yates' employment was the correct and only possible result from her refusal to obey a lawful order of the President of the United States.

Liberals don't get that, because they have no respect for the law.

Secret Service agent O'Grady and Sally Yates are selling out for the lucrative Liberal talk show circuit. They will make far more as Liberal sellouts than they did in their day jobs.

Damn snowflake, that's a little harsh.

Have you read this?

But, as it turns out, Yates did nothing more than what she said all along she would doway back at her confirmation hearing as deputy attorney general on March 24, 2015. And, in an interesting twist, she received on that occasion a word of caution from none other than Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), who informed her that a time might come when she would have to stand up to the executive branch. Sessions is now Trump’s nominee for attorney general.

SESSIONS: You have to watch out because people will be asking you to do things you just need to say “no” about. Do you think the Attorney General has the responsibility to say no to the President if he asks for something that’s improper? A lot of people have defended the [Loretta] Lynch nomination, for example, by saying, “Well [Obama] appoints somebody who’s going to execute his views. What’s wrong with that?” But if the views the president wants to execute are unlawful, should the Attorney General or the Deputy Attorney General say no?

YATES: Senator, I believe the Attorney General or the Deputy Attorney General has an obligation to follow the law and the Constitution, and to give their independent legal advice to the president.
