I don't draw a distinction many of those Jews WERE Polish.

Russia overtook a big part of Poland and Poland overtook a big part of Germany. As well the Polish in the now Russian area of Poland and the Germans in the now Polish area of Germany had to leave their home countries. In both cases the people of many original cultures/tribes/nations had been murdered and/or displaced (= genocided) from the Russian Soviets with the agreement of all other allies of world war 2. Not Russia made Russia "great" - the allies of world war 1+2 made Russia "great".

A little comment to this two pictures:

The so called "Warsaw Ghetto" never had existed historically. It is the district of Wola which was made to a concentration camp in the middle of the 1940ies from the Nazis. They labelled Wola the "Jewish residential district in Warsaw" and it became a collection camp for the extermination camp Treblinka of the SS. The name "Warsaw Ghetto" suggests a medieval way of life and grown structures that indeed never existed there. It was a modern, murderous concentration camp.

But the total destruction of this area - which seems to be comparable with the bombing of German cities of the allies - has a totally other reason: arson. In 1943 the Jews there understood that the shoa - the "Endlösung der Judenfrage" - since the late 1970ies it will be called "Holocaust" (="burnt offering") - means the industrial organisation of the mass murder of all Jewish people on Darwinian fake-reasons: Men, women, children, babies. So the Jews there decided to die fighting - without any little hope to be able to win ... and the Nazis murdered them all in heavy street fights and burnt down the whole district Wola.

I'm hungarian and my grandmother told us stories of how her sister and her were hidden into beds when the red army were around. It is terrifying to think of this happening to anyone, let alone to family.

The Brits and Americans actually pulled back from areas they conquered to give them to the Soviets per the Yalta Agreements. The only reason the Soviets were able to press their 1944 and 1945 offensives were the over 300,000 trucks and millions of tons of food, ammo, fuel given to them by the WAllies. Without the trucks, the Red Army would have had to depend on animal traction for most of its supplies just like the Wehrmacht did. The Eastern Front would have been the western Desert writ large with a constant back and forth as each side outran its ability to move supplies forward to the troops.
