Russian warships have entered the English Channel and are planning to conduct military drills near the coast of Britain, it has been reported.

The Russian Defence Ministry's officials were quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying the ships belonged to Russia's Northern Fleet, which sparked controversy with a similar move last November.

According to the official, the ships will pass through the Channel to hold anti-aircraft and anti-submarine defence drills in the northern Atlantic. The vessels are being monitored by the Ministry of Defence, which said they include the Udaloy class destroyer Severomorsk, a tanker and a support ship.

A spokesperson for the MoD said the Russian ships were being supervised during their passage by the HMS Argyll, and that it had witnessed no military drills being carried out.

It is not unusual for Russian ships to pass the British coast but the latest incident comes amid heightened international tensions. Last time a squadron from the Russian navy passed through the Channel on 28 November last year it was tailed by a Royal Navy patrol boat. Nato was then forced to deny any security risk after Northern Fleet commanders were quoted by the RIA news agency boasting about "undertaking a series of exercises" while anchored off the UK.

And James Nixey, head of the Russia and Eurasia Programme at Chatham House, said that while the Channel is a legitimate shipping lane "these things aren't done by accident".

"Russia is trying to show it has got full spectrum capability warfare," he said. "It is not a prelude to war but it is a reminder that Russia likes to use - that it is a power to be reckoned with, not a fading power, which might be closer to the reality."

Reading the comment section on articles like this one can be interesting. There are at least a couple of posters that appear to know from the inside that Russia is making plans for the future. One of the comments from a military person said that Russia has been doing drills since Autumn 2013 and I believe he is right. I believe in October of this year it will be two years now. While there is no question this is a provocative move - that they are doing this to intimidate and to flex their muscles - as it were - the truth is they are also planning a nuclear strike against the US in the future and after that they will become ruler over Europe.

There is a book called Man through the Fire without Burning by Dumitru Duduman that explains why the Russians are preparing to do this. The specific states listed for a nuclear strike were California, New York, Florida and Las Vegas (Nevada) as the LORD said those States are as Sodom and Gomorrah. It's an excellent book. You should buy yourself a copy.

Question to Hollywood - how will certain Hollywood residents be part of the "chosen ones" who rule the world when the State of California is attacked with nuclear weapons and decimated? Were they planning on doing that from the grave? From hell? That won't work. Best plan is found in Romans 10:9,10. TODAY is the day of salvation. TODAY.

Russian submarine activity in the North Atlantic is currently equalling or even surpassing Cold War levels, according to NATO's top naval officer. The North Atlantic was again and area "of concern" for the alliance, Vice Admiral Clive Johnstone, Commander of NATO's Maritime Command, said, with the commanders of his submarine cells currently reporting "more activity from Russian submarines than we've seen since the days of the Cold War".

Not only are Russian submarines returning to Cold War levels of operational activity, but Russian submarines have made a major jump in technological performance, Vice Adm Johnstone said, with NATO seeing "a level of Russian capability that we haven't seen before". Russia, he said, "through an extraordinary investment path not mirrored by the West" has made "technology leaps that [are] remarkable, and credit to them." Russian submarines now "have longer ranges, they have better systems, they're freer to operate", he said. The alliance has also "seen a rise in professionalism and ability to operate their boats that we haven't seen before", noted Vice Adm Johnstone, adding, "that is a concern".

Together, this meant that the level of Russian submarine activity NATO is currently seeing in the North Atlantic is "very different from the period of quiet submarine activity that perhaps we've seen in the past". However he added, "I think none of that would worry us if we knew what the game plans were or we knew why they were deploying or what they were doing … we don't understand what the strategic and operational objectives are of the Russian state." This was because "a lot of what the Russians are doing at the moment we don't understand, and is obscure and is shrouded in other activity which makes us nervous, and makes nations nervous".
