There are points of interest in this that will be of interest to members of the forum.

Especially encouraging:

“The Ukrainian side has become more realistic in its approach to issues related to the neutral and non-nuclear status of Ukraine,” Medinsky wrote on Telegram on Sunday.

Is it possible to keep some of the threads relating to the war, in the breaking news section. There's no more important 'breaking news' than the possibilities of peace!

All meaningless until Ukraine ceding rights to Crimea and Donbas are on the table.
Moscow is demanding that Kiev officially recognize Crimea as part of Russia and the republics in Donbass as independent states. Crimea voted to leave Ukraine and rejoin Russia shortly after the 2014 Maidan coup in Kiev. During the recent talks in Istanbul the Ukrainian delegation promised that Kiev won’t be making attempts to return the Donbass republics by force, and suggested holding separate negotiations on the status of Crimea over the course of 15 years.

This seems to indicate that the two sides are getting close. Russia's priorities are practically satisfied by this statement.

Returning the Crimea to the Ukraine is impossible for Russia to agree upon, due to their Navy base there. This attempt by the US to wrestle it away from Russia was always a bridge too far, that resulted in a worse situation than the peaceful status quo that existed.

The Donbass region isn't so certain and can be satisfied by an agreement of neutrality.

Russia will take the entire Ukraine before it will give up the Crimea. If America desires to keep this war going to deplete Russia's strength at the cost of Ukrainian lives, then the Crimea is the gambit that can guarantee that.

This is a war between America and Russia and that makes the stakes much higher than is being appreciated.

The Russian people are totally behind Putin, as we are now being informed.

Are Americans with Biden on winning this war?

The outcome will decide two major issues.

Either the end of US/Nato encroachment toward Russia's borders

or

The partioning and disintegration of the Russian state.

Unless the Ukraine decides to govern it's own future without outside interference. There never was a good reason for the Ukraine's ethnic civil war against the parts of their country in question.

Maybe something very big will happen to break the logjam. Let's all hope it's not nuclear!

The US has no say in the peace talks, we aren't even invited. Zelensky needs to face reality before Biden throws him under the bus. Might be too late by then.

I'm betting that the Ukrainians won't accept Russian demands, and they would be right to reject a peace treaty.

Putin won't stop his aggression until he is put down. No concession will appease Putin as his desire is to rebuild the Russian empire.

Putin said this in 2005:

"“First and foremost it is worth acknowledging that the demise of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century,” Putin said."

And again Putin in 2018:

"A day after unveiling dramatic new weapons — including a nuclear-powered cruise missile — that sparked talk of a return to Cold War tensions, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested that he'd reverse the collapse of the Soviet Union if he could."

Fuck Putin.

Thanks for voicing your opinion. At the moment at least it's as valid as any other.

I wouldn't consider any of that valid. There are too many indications that Russia is willing to settle with much less than the entire Ukraine. Russia has withdrawn its forces back from anything appearing to be a siege on Kiev. That seems to be in the interest of facilitating peace talks.

Whether or not Russia is being defeated and that's the reason for the drawback, is still undetermined. I'm of the opinion that Russia never did make a serious attempt to take Kiev. Most reports by the MSM in the US show the people going about their business, rather than it being a city under siege.

Russia's part in the war now will be hand to hand combat in the cities that are contested.

Nope, the US is not invited to any peace talks involving Russia. Ukraine can't win, sooner later the American people will get bored with this Eurotrash squabble and remember domestic issues.
Ukraine can win but it's not something I wish to lay out in detail.

Or at least, the Ukraine can win at the cost of many, many lives.

I can see a possibility of America not allowing the Ukraine to agree to a peace settlement. If Zelensky goes sour he can be demonized and eliminated.

The stakes are very high for America and Russia too.

We should never talk in terms of complete victory. We must talk in terms of what can be politically spun as victory. Never expect anything more than that!

Some years back they gave an area of land called the Sunderland to someone very similar to Putin. The hope was they would appease that asshole and that a larger war would be averted. Appeasement doesn't work.

Some eighty years later the asshole Putin is working hard to prove that if we don't learn from history we are condemned to repeat it.

We either beat him now or we will have to fight him later.

LOL! The Sudetenland?
If you're going to start acting like a petulant child, you'll get sent back to your sandbox with the rest of the spammers. Your choice right now!

You are a clown. You are so far up Putin's ass you want to demonize Zelensky: your words - "If Zelensky goes sour he can be demonized and eliminated".

Putin went to the Ukraine looking for a fight and the Ukrainians have been kicking the Russians in the teeth since they crossed the border.

Sadly our own leadership lacks the courage Zelensky has displayed.
