Well it's not looking good.

Russia has moved more than 5,000 armored vehicles and artillery into positions to close the Donbas pocket. I have been saying for a few weeks THIS IS THEIR MAIN OBJECTIVE.

Russia learned from US mistakes, they were never interested in decapitating the government like we did in Iraq and leave the army to disperse into the countryside to rise up later as an insurgency.

A more practical theory is that Russia hammered Kiev with a small contingent of its forces, to pin Ukrainian actions in specific areas and destroy internal lines of communication.

Now the Donbas pocket which contains about 300,000 Ukrainian soldiers/guardsmen and militia, are entirely surrounded.

And here come the Russians moving freely around the outside of the pocket.

I would at least agree that Russia never did intend to take Kiev. Russia said they would withdraw after they had inflicted minor damage,
Western propaganda said they were lying.
Then they did withdraw.
Western propaganda said they were defeated and pushed back.
Who knows the truth?

At least we know that Russia has always intended to take the Donbass region, a sea corridor, and to hold the Crimea.
If for no altruistic reason, Russia needs the Donbass region as a buffer zone to protect their border.

Let's hope they don't change their minds and take the entire Ukraine.

Lelt's also hope that the Ukraine is permitted to negotiate a peace before and large numbers of casualties begins.
