Rules of Engagement: Impeaching the President
A Microscopic view of What this is all about

1. The House appointed a key committee that included Democrats only in a secret meeting room in the basement of Congress. Is this the proper way to begin a bipartisan impeachment? No Republicans were allowed to weigh in on the charges to be taken against the President. The doors were locked and they were not permitted in when they came to the secret room.

This committee recommended Trump be impeached for obstruction of justice and abuse of power.

Although impeachment rules are that the president must be found guilty of bribery, treason or some other HIGH crime or misdemeanor. Bribery and treason are particular crimes while the phrase HIGH crime or misdemeanor seems to be a catch all phrase to act as what the House would want that particular crime or particular High misdemeanor to be.

1. The articles of impeachment go directly to the full Senate for trial. Democrats accuse Trump of pressuring the Ukraine to open an investigation into Joe Biden’s son who is working for a company Burisima on the Board of Directors although he has no experience in the oil business (which is what Burisima is) or being on a Board of Directors and is paid hundreds of thousands of dollars each month. The question, was this an abuse of power and will it be answered in trial.

They also charge the president obstructed justice by refusing to comply with subpoenas and directing members of his administration to do the same. A question arises that other presidents have also refused to comply with subpoenas and directing his team to do the same without impeachment. This will probably be brought up during the trial.

A question arose that , in a phone call on July 25th, Trump asked Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to open an investigation of Biden’s son.

Trump also wanted Zelenskyy to investigate a debunked conspiracy theory that Ukraine, not Russia, interfered in the 2016 US presidential election.

At the time of the call, the Trump administration was withholding nearly $400m in Congress-approved military assistance from Ukraine.

President Zelenskyy said nothing was ever withheld from the Ukraine.

There is a tape of Joe Biden on a talk show talking how there was some prosecutor investigating his son in the Ukraine and he told him to stop and six weeks later he wasn’t there any longer, insinuating he had been fired.

The Senate says that they will work on the trial as the first order of business, week of Jan.6.

House Managers who would work as prosecutors starting Jan.9th.

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presides over the trial.

The Senate is made up of 53 Republican s and 45 Democrats with 2 Independent that caucus with the Democrats. At least 20 Republicans would have to vote with all the Democrats and the two Indies to remove the president.

1. The procedure in the Senate:

The House Managers will come over and make their arguments. The Presidents lawyers would then respond. Then, they could call witnesses and have another trial or move to vote on the two articles of impeachment.

At the present time, Pelosi is not sending the articles of impeachment to the Senate. She said she refuses until she sees what witnesses they will call. But it is up to the senate to appoint the witnesses if any.

Some Constitutional Scholars are saying until the Impeachment Articles are received, there was no impeachment at all.

We know that the House democrats broke House rules. Not sure if the GOP senate broke any...yet.

Very good OP! It outlines what happened in the House, and what might happen in the senate, but does not seem to render any opinions?
Here is what might happen in the senate:
1. The House managers make their case, and the presidents lawyers make their rebuttals, then the senators vote and Trump is acquitted.
2. The senate votes to allow witnesses, the Trump guys claim all "executive privilege" and the defense witnesses like Hunter Biden, Schiff, Joe Biden, Chalupa, Strzok, Page, Comey, Rosenstein, the Ohrs, Rice, Lynch, Brennan, Clapper, and the rest of the "deep state" conspirators that were part of "Operation Crossfire Hurricane" aka the worst scandal in US history would prove the democrat's coup plots against Trump using the power of the federal government agencies to illegally spy on and obstruct the Trump campaign and presidency.

And No. 2 is what Pelosi is terrified of. What grander sight it would be to have our Senate grill the deep state conspirators for the entire nation to see exactly what was going on! Part of me would just like the Senate to vote to acquit and be done with it, but we do need to she light in exactly what went on in Operation Crossfire Hurricane. I doubt if there would be many Democrats left in the country after something like that!

I really cannot wait until the 6th to see if Pelosi is going to turn over the Articles of Impeachment. Is John Roberts watching all of this to see if he is going to be called upon to intervene? We are actually watching the most sordid period of our history. Congratulations Democrats, you've made the Teapot Dome, Cuban Missile Crisis, Nixonian presidency and Clinton's impeachment miniscule.

We are actually watching the biggest clown show in history. The democrats impeached Trump, but without a crime, so its just hyper-partisan politics..The USSC just took the Trump vs House subpoena for Trump's tax records case, so that effectively killed Article-2 of the impeachment. The USSC said that Trump does have the right to appeal to the courts, and that is NOT "obstruction of congress", the House is not omnipotent over the Executive.

This joke impeachment could either be dismissed with a quick vote, or drag on and on with tons of witnesses.
Either way, Trump wins and wins again in November.

You know, it's hard not to relish with delight, but we have to be cautious and think of the country's welfare. Ah, let's go for it. Bring on the witnesses. Sure hope Trey Goudy will presenting questions! Love that guy!
