When did you libs ever respect Rudy, RW?
The fact the libs don't like him now isn't a change from past history
I was a great admirer of Rudy. I personally saw the changes he wrought in New York City. I was a fan of Rudy long before 9/11.
NYC was a giant sewer before Rudy became mayor and he transformed it into a great metropolis.
I used to frequently visit NYC since I lived in Connecticut. During the 70s and 80s, NYC really fell apart.
When I visited in 1986 for the reopening of the Statue of Liberty, I was there in Battery Park for the ceremony.
At Times Square, on 42nd Street, for a solid block there were gun dealers, pimps, hookers, and drug dealers standing shoulder to shoulder selling their wares. On each corner there was a clot of police to keep order. They were not making arrests. Things were too overwhelming for them.
On that same block were porno theaters and porn shops side-by-side. The whole area around Times Square was like this.
When I visited Washington Square Park, there were drug dealers literally grabbing kids, trying to sell them drugs.
I found myself wishing I had an Uzi.
I vowed then and there not to ever visit the city again until it was cleaned up.
That time came in 1999. I could not believe the difference. Where those peddlers of smut and drugs and guns and whores used to be, there stood a giant Disney store. You could not ask for a better metaphor for what Mayor Rudy Giuliani had accomplished.
So, yeah. To see him become the slug he is today is heartbreaking.
