1. Mainly, his voters are authoritarian followers. They crave a daddy figure. They get a thrill from being terrified. They're easily frightened and brainwashed. They're more weak and stupid than they are evil, like the average German that supported the Nazis.

2. A few just adore the thought of fascism, of bringing the jackboot down on their enemies. (See "westwall")

3. Some are hardcore religious cultists, seeking Christian theocratic dictatorship.

4. Some are hardcore racists.

5. And some are just greedy. They understand how awful Trump is, but they're willing to sell out the rest of humanity for a buck.

IMHO it has more to do with the fact that everyone voting for trump is a closet submissive. They want to be dominated. They need someone to tell them what to do and when to do it. They are lost without a director of some sort. Fox and Breitbart and such have figured it out. You notice they don't provide information, they dispense directions. They tell the trump voters what their opinions are. It's why the Evangelicals are a natural fit. They've already been trained for decades to have no self will at all.
