So what changed during the 1960’s to start this upward trend?

So the trend started up about the time mental institutions started getting shut down, and the bar for mental competency was lowered because people got upset that Ronnie Raygun's shooter got off without being executed.

More people--more violence...mass shootings roughly follow the population curve. Also, the desensitization of the populace to violence and the covert advocacy of violence to solve issues. Movies, video games and the media all play their parts. School shootings have become the "thing" for whack jobs...they find a certain affirmation in the media coverage that makes them an attractive option.We get hung up on gun violence..but we are, and have always been, a violent culture. Mass murders, genocides and the like are part of the human gestalt.

Your point seems to be the Religion inhibits violence. History would disagree with your position..in general. In America/ I dunno..I went to school in the 50's and 60's--in a small town. We were taught that men fought..and that church was something you went to on Sundays. I was never told in school anything about religion, God or being special.

I find the correlation of the start of all the mollycoddling and social engineering going on in schools today with the beginning of the mass shootings hard to ignore.

Increase in single teenage girls raising children without fathers.

Fatherless boys with mental illness falling through the cracks because the single mothers can't handle the issues involved with raising young boys by themselves.

A 24/7 news cycle that gives fame to shooters, and a social network system that allows them to study and learn from past mass shooters.....increasing their ability to kill in gun free zones.

The fatherless rate in the black community went from 17% to 77% current day..
Almost all the mass shooters came from a broken home .. fix the family

The countries of Europe suffered World War 2........The breakdown of the nuclear family was slowed by the destruction of major swathes of those countries....now, their social welfare states have reached the point where single teenage mothers are now raising multiple children from different males in fatherless homes......and the violence rates are increasing over there....
