Rights In The US

So many points to address in that. I think I will start a thread on it soon. As this thread is not really about where rights come from. You seem to be looking for something other than that.

As you indicated in your last paragraph.
Maybe I'm wrong but rights seem to come from only three places:

1. In the US rights come from the bill of rights

2. moral human rights come from God

3. Actually, the UN has a list of rights at Universal Declaration of Human Rights | United Nations

I have a question for you and those interested in your OP.

"Where do your rights come from?"

Specifically, I'm asking about our basic human rights. Like those you listed.

Maybe, I'll start a new thread on it, because I'd like to poll the question, too.

"Where do our basic human rights come from?"
Rights come from those willing to enforce them. Without enforcement you really don't have any rights. If there are 2 people in existence, the only rights that exist are the ones that stronger of the 2 is willing to grant.

I was responding to the posted question of "where do rights come from?"
Starting with the development of the Magna Carta, rights came from people applying violence to the Crown to secure those rights.
It is inarguable that they used guns to "secure their rights." That's true. However, that doesn't answer the question of where the rights that they were securing "came from."

That's not remotely true. If it were they couldnt be taken away from you, and they would be universal. Seeing as neither of those things is true, your rights are not given to you by God.

The regime was voted out of office last November.
Quite true, and then replaced with a less dangerous regime, for world peace.

(if such a thing can be true of any US regime.)

More important is the stature of America's enemies!

...Democrats claim that violent crime is down...
Down from W-H-A-T ??? !!! ...from numbers so frigging high that they're coming-down from a low-earth orbit !!!

It's time to clean-out some of the urban rats'-nests of personal and gang crime that the Democrats have been enabling.

You know where it is that my own insanity shows the most?

It's when I try to use logic and reason to bring them to any other way of thinking.
You can't reason with either the insane or evil, as both are kissing cousins.

"rights" are a creation of the human mind. They dont exist outside of that.
Those that don't believe that there is a God, you are correct.

For those people, humans are merely glorified animals.

And how do we treat animals? We lock them in zoos for our entertainment, use them as beasts of burden, or kill and eat them on a whim.

That is why it is so dangerous when secular humanism takes over a society.

But as for myself, I could personally care less what Joe Biden thinks of me or the 9 black robes, especially as corrupt and stupid as they all are.

Do I really care what the opinions are of people who don't even know what a woman is?

NO!!!

I can never get this clip out of my mind

The Left mocks the right for thinking that our rights come from God, not knowing or not giving a damn, that this is what the Founding Fathers said.

Therefore, to hell with the 9 black robes that my try to deny us our natural rights because they are not the ones who gave us those rights.

In my opinion the human condition supersedes the Bill of Rights.

Or, looking at it a different way, the Bill merely codifies the human condition.

For example - my favorite example - human beings have a natural right to self defense. The Bill tries to codify this in terms of "bearing arms", and the Supreme Court has recently recognized that the Second does in fact pertain to self defense.

Therefore restrictive gun laws violate human rights, and laws that prevent me from fighting back against my assailants or oppressors, also violate human rights.

Unknown ( to me )
“… they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights ….”

That was not written for a religious purpose. It was part of the justification for a political determination. Thus, I believe that the Founders recognized that our rights do not come from man.

If a government has the authority to grant any of us a “right,” then that same government must have the power to strip us of that “right.” A right subject to such cancellation doesn’t seem to be a right at all. Therefore, the Founders and the Framers were careful to spell out that the rights are universal for all of us and are “guaranteed by” )but not “granted to us by) the Consitution.

They didn't come from anywhere. They were taken from the Crown. The Crown claimed their rights to rule came from god (divine right of kings), but it just came from them having dudes with pointy sticks.

Or as Caesar once said in Cleopatra:
  • Julius Caesar: Then at once. And in Rome, Marc Antony is to speak for Caesar. There is to be no question about his authority to act in my name.
  • Canidius: His word will be yours. And as always, Caesar's word will be law.
  • Julius Caesar: Of course. And remind him to keep his legions intact. They make the law legal.

No. Case law has always held the Crown (now the state) has no duty to individual citizens.
That is not the case in the United States.

Our government is specifically tasked with upholding the Bill of Rights.

It is REQUIRED to do so by our Constitution.

Exactly. Let's use Chicago as an example. Chicago had like 583 murders in 2024. Assuming their stats aren't doctored (a big if), we're supposed to be happy that they are only on a pace of 500 murders for 2025, a drop of 14%? We're supposed to just accept that crime is "down"? We're supposed to be happy with 500 murders? And, that doesn't even talk about ALL crime, that's just murders. We're supposed to be happy that there will only be 500 murders in Chicago this year when all other crime is exploding?

She didn't say anything about "God."

Here's the fun part. The Bill of Rights was not meant to be the only rights we had, but to enshrine certain basic ones so government couldn't later take them away.
That is not the case in the United States.

Our government is specifically tasked with upholding the Bill of Rights.

It is REQUIRED to do so by our Constitution.
And our government was formed by dewds with GUNZ who freed themselves from the Crown, and then enshrined our rights in paper, but also realized those rights could be taken away, so the kept their GUNZ.

In some ways a constitution seems almost pointless.

That is, whoever is in power will either abide by it or ignore it, as we see repeatedly every day of our lives.

Laws are only as good as the will to enforce them.
