Right-Wing Challenge: Fair Income Tax For The Top 50% vs Bottom 50%

The richest people also pay almost no taxes with write offs and loopholes. It’s the middle class that gets screwed
You are an idiot braalian

Yeah, ok, during COVID, or on SS.
This chart seems to dispute that "zero" claim. The bottom 50% pay an average 3.3%, that seems more than zero.

Your last link says 40% not half.
"In 2025, according to the latest Tax Policy Center estimates, 40 percent of households, or about 76 million “tax units,” will pay no federal individual income tax."

I’m sorry that you are unable to read and comprehend. You should work on that. I said NEARLY HALF. Are you too stupid to be able to read what I typed or are you just looking for a reason to try and pretend that more people pay federal income tax. The point that you keep missing is that a lot of people in this country pay zero percent federal income tax OR LESS. Whether it’s 30%, 40%, or 45% it is too many.

Not sure what point you are trying to make?
Poor people don't pay a lot of income taxes because they don't have much income.
Do you want the "fair tax" where poor people pay the same tax rate as Elon Musk and other billionaires?

We have more important issues to deal with other than low income people don't pay much income tax.
The wealthy have the wealth, not the poor.

Explain why it isn’t fair to treat everyone the same.

I’d be for a flat tax rate if they eliminated every single deduction and loophole.

Everyone pays a certain percentage of their taxes. Period. No exceptions whatsoever

Here is the challenge and it is based on next year's budget.

You need to raise about $2.4T in personal income taxes just to be $2.0T short of next year's expenses (Trump's plan) in a way that allows people to also live a life.

How do you raise your $2.4T from income taxes between the two halves of earners? Bottom half and top half.

Today we get 98% from the top 50% as it is circled in red on the chart to the right but as you can see they earn almost all the income and certainly 100% of the discretionary income after you put bare bones living expenses against $23k vs 137k.

What is "fair" to you?

I predict a long line of right-wingers suggesting we take $200B from people making $23K still leaving a $1.6T deficit without regard to how one would live. But maybe they will surprise me with some thoughtful reflection on income tax burdens and living with low means.

GO!

Trump 2026 Budget
$7T in Expenses

$2.4T of Income Tax

$1.7T of Payroll Tax
$0.5T of Corporate Tax
$0.5T of Excise and Tariffs
$5.2T of Revenue

$1.8T Deficit

A flat tax of 10% by the federal government along with ending "deductions/tax loopholes" would make things completely fair.
If a flat tax of 10% was imposed on a person who made $1 million dollars and had no deductions/loopholes, that person would pay $100,000. If your income was $50,000, your tax would be $5,000. Totally fair. The person who made the million is paying more into the federal government that you are. It couldn't be "fairer" than that.

No income tax. What could be more fair than that?

Wages shouldn't be taxed at all. They aren't income; there is no profit and loss for wages, they're barter, no capital gain. The employer receives all the gains from productivity.

There is one vote for getting $200B from people making $23K per year. How much money does one need to live on? How does it make sense to take $4000 from someone making $23000?
Early settlers only needed a tent and a fishing pole…Should we send noncontributing bottom feeders to resource rich forrest's where they’re not using our schools, our social and emergency services, our healthcare and infrastructure? What about “FAIR SHARE”? Aren’t your pet human illegals and degenerates using/abusing most of the aforementioned?

Income taxes are barely half of Federal revenues, so the top half is paying about 25%, not '98%' or the other absurd numbers. The 'top half' re also receiving most of the benefits of Social Security and Medicare, along with the largest chunks of tax breaks and deductions. along with most of the income. Claiming they're 'overtaxed' is stupid and of course hides the income brackets that are paying the highest rate. Since now the claim is $60K is 'middle class', which is barely above minimum wage adjusted for real inflation, then yes, the lower brackets are indeed over-taxed, while the upper brackets, like the top 5%, aren't paying squat relative to the 'middle class'.

Here is what the real income curve looks like:

This is why the uber-wealthy just love pushing the 'income tax' off on wages, and why they pay 'economists' to peddle the last 12 'Fair Tax' scams off on the clueless.

So what do want to do for US Citizens who unable to work?
So what do want to do for US Citizens who can't earn enough to live?
first I would ask whats there names and the reason they cant work??

all welfare should be ran directly in the communities its being paid out in,,
that way any fraud or intentional laziness can be rooted out,,

What
You can have a flat tax that exempts income earned up to a certain level, say "poverty" level, for instance.
That is generally how a progressive tax system works....

There are people here who think that US should be lower on this list.

Thing is that just drives income inequality..
1773374045735.webp

US has the highest income inequality in the first world by a good margin.

Why does that matter?
High income inequality is considered detrimental because it
stunts long-term economic growth, reduces social mobility, and undermines social cohesion. It limits access to education and opportunities for lower-income groups, creates political instability, reduces overall consumer demand, and hampers human capital development, ultimately hindering economic resilience

What is does, makes US weaker over time.. Look at the anger that is in America today, a lot of that is due to a very unequal society.
1773374405177.webp

This what is actually happening. Blaming specific groups (immigrants, poor,...) because they are unhappy. Add in fear mongering and misinformation and you get them blaming the wrong people.
Triclke down economics is a con, the laughing stock of the rest of the first world. The concept of letting corporations and rich keep their money will some how make you richer is a joke, it just makes them richer.

US is less and less the land of opportunity, it is 27th on Economic mobility (ability to move between income classes). Reality is you are more likely in many European countries to be born poor and move into middle or upper class in your lifetime than in US.

This was not always the case

US used to be case, US used to be leader in the world back in the 1960s not any more

The great trick is they have half the country cheering this trend on.. Bernie Sanders has a point...

I think we shouldnt be on the list,,

taxing a mans work is as fascist as it gets,,

it literally takes food out of working peoples mouths,,

Makes it even more stupid to allow massive immigration and impoverishing citizens even more, especially handing out subsidies to them. Of course the middle class danced in the streets when Reagan went after the working class and lower incomes with tax increases, so I can't work up much of a pity party for them any more; they never noticed who would be next in line for raping once the lower income people were plundered and replaced by cheap immigrant labor. Like all human problems, it's entirely self-inflicted.

I think we should heavily tax forum trolls paid by NGOs funded by China to ruin this country from within. We should also tax all the dumocrap politicians working for the benefit of China to ruin America from within. This is a free country, but obviously un-patriotic behavior should have its costs.

Edwin,

That immigration attack you did is exactly what they want... They have people in America convinced that Mexicans are bad for US.
People who have been in US since they were a c child are now getting deported without any major conviction. They have gone through the US educational system. Parents of US Citizens are getting deported.
Let me suggest, how about temporary visas given online for seasonal farm workers, they can come and go knowing is easy to get back in next season. This is a win-win for the worker and America.

"They are robbing our Jobs.." mantra is just BS, US Citizens don't pick crops or work in meat plants...

Automation and AI is the real job killer anyway..
