Someone tell me how this policy of seperation of chuch and state in America has been successful given our current social state of affairs here across the board.

I'm not lobbying for official recognition of 1 religion as the state religion but rather to quit pussyfooting around and endorse the friggin ideals such as the ten commandments. We go out of our way to keep this crap seperate that its no wonder we live in the current state America is in.

There is a separation of church and state because the Constitution of the United States guarantees freedom of religion. That is why there is no "state" religion.
That is what always confuses me about extreme conservatives. How can they howl about the unjustness of Arabic countries forcing people to be Muslims, when they want to force everyone here to be Christians?

The world is a very diverse place. People worship God in a great variety of ways. Doesn't matter if His name is God, Buddah or Allah. The principles of Hindu, Shinto, Anglican, Morman and various other beliefs are basically the same.

Quit being narrow minded and accept the diversity of all cultures.

You obviously didn't even read or maybe you didn't understand the post. Go back and read it again.

Forgot to add that from your words you would like a continue spiral of violent crime and all the other things that go along with that.....nice citizen you are.......real civic minded.

How does freedom of religion led to an escalation of violent crime?

And I read and understood your initial post. Obviously you didn't.

Seperation of church and state lead to secular values which lead to our current shithole here. Are you going to argue that siocially Americis not a shithole and that seperation of church and state is a good thing?

Take your socialist wares to another shop little girl.

I'm with OCA - you read part of his initial post, then replied back to something different. Try to stay on-topic... :)

The ideals of the 10 commandments are well represented in our laws. Are you suggesting letting the state and federal governments legislate morality too?

Recent polls tell us that America is one of the most reilgious countries on earth, so the notion that a "separation of church and state" is the root of all evil in America is patently absurd.

So, to answer your question, America is not a social pesthole. For that you need to travel to a US 'ally' like Uzbekistan or Pakistan. And yes, the separation of church and state is a good thing. History is replete with the attrocities committed by the many and varied theocracies that have sprung up and, mercifully, died over time. A recent case was in Taliban controlled Afghanistan, which we spiked.

There is no such thing as "separation of church and state" per se. Our Constitution just prevents the "establishment" of religion.

Religious expression is a freedom under the Constitution.
Religious expression should be expressed at will in the public square, our schools, our Congress, or anywhere, anytime in a FREE country.

We are LOSING our freedom of religion and our free speech due to the ACLU communists forcing their version of "separation of church and state" upon us.

This I agree with. It's the anti-establishment of religion, not the seperation of.

And I quote:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.

Why the confusion?

That's a major aspect of conservativism. :whip3:

Every law is someones morality.

I'm talking about letting state and federal government dictate what movies and TV shows we can watch, or what magazines or books we are allowed to read, or whether a person is allowed to have a beer in the privacy of their own home. The implication of the thread is that we are given too much freedom in these and similar areas, thus leading to a breakdown of society. So whose morals are going to be those we all have to live by?

The moral of the people. thats the point of having legislature to pass laws according to the will of the people. duh.

And those laws have been passed, and it is legal to watch a porno movie while browsing through a Playboy magazine and drinking a beer. Get over it! What's really tiresome is the constant whining by the religious right because we aren't all forced to live as Christians. Live your lives as you see fit and let everyone else live theirs as they see fit, within the bounds of law of course.

I understand where Avatar and others are coming from, it's very difficult these days not to be assaulted with subjects and pictures that one doesn't want to see. It's also difficult raising children during these times, but that is the price of living in a 'free country.'

My kids can now watch what they will, some of which I wouldn't. Yet, I controlled what they watched, heard, etc., when they were under my protection. They didn't get to watch PG13 movies at 10. They couldn't put up offensive posters in their rooms, in MY HOUSE, :)laugh: they still can't, I am the judge of what's offensive in my home, where I pay the mortgage.)

When they were in high school, they had to show me the CD's they had bought, because I couldn't hear the words, none were allowed in without lyrics. If one of the boys, it's always the boys, told me, "no lyrics," we went online and found them.

While we had cable, I refused to get the 'extended' plan with HBO, etc. There is enough smut for my tastes. Now that doesn't mean that others shouldn't be able to buy what they wish, my house, my rules.

Conservatism is supposed to be about less intrusion.

Yes, less instrusion into state rights to set their own standards. The ACLU commie scum travel all over the country attacking various state rights such putting a cross on a city seal in LA or displaying the Ten Commandments in a courthouse in Alabama.

On the other hand the ACLU commie scum will travel all over the country in order to promote pornography and related sick stuff like Nambla. They have turned our country's morals upside down. Today you have plenty of freedom to express porn but you better watch out if you want to express a smidgeon of religion!

There is no Constitutional basis for what the ACLU is doing. It is all trumped up legal trickery. They get away with it because there are too many liberal judges letting them.
