you actually should take your own advice, or learn to comprehend English and straight line reasoning.
I will say it one more time, maybe you blew by that post, I said and stand by the fact that illegal alien started out pretty much the same way ala anchor baby. those that favor both, felt that washing the term thru the spin and rinse of the PC machine would somehow make someone who is here illegally , appear less so or innoculate them and their actions with a change in the labeling, i.e. GW to climate change, its a semantic slight of hand.
No. And again, you are creating a strawman by trying to put the two in the same category and then use that for your argument.
Illegal alien was not a slur - in fact, it isn't a slur even now. Anchor baby has always had a perjorative stigma from the beginning of it's use.
Look at the dictionary's definition of "illegal alien":
illegal alien
noun
1.
a foreigner who has entered or resides in a country unlawfully or without the country's authorization.
2.
a foreigner who enters the U.S. without an entry or immigrant visa, especially a person who crosses the border by avoiding inspection or who overstays the period of time allowed as a visitor, tourist, or businessperson. Compare resident alien.
It does not say anything about it being derogatory (unlike the terms anchor baby, redneck and hillbilly).
Your issue is with the "PC Machine" - but this is not a PC issue because nothing about the word has changed - it was and still is a slur, only now (like with redneck and hillbilly) - it is noted in the dictionary definition.
Changing "illegal alien" to "undocumented worker" is sillyness (and yup, PC run amuck)- but it has nothing to do with this issue because it's not a PC issue. The only thing this argument does is put a spotlight on general hatred that some have towards illegals, even to the point of stigmatizing the innocent children of illegal aliens. I suppose that they want to their pet slur to remain pristine and unmarked by the "derogatory" label in a dictionary.
In the end, it doesn't matter what you call it, it's not even a free speech issue because you can say what ever you want. There is no law against it.
The use of our system as it is designed right now, means, Anchor babies exist, the logic attached may be fractured to an extent but its is a descriptor of an action or actions, not a slur, as in some of the examples posted here so far; limey, mick, guinea etc etc.
Anchor babies exist. So do ******* and pickanninies, chinks and hymies and a host of other equally derogatory terms for groups of people. The fact that they exist doesn't make those terms any less derogatory.
go back and look at the post I added to foxfyres remarks, alinskys rule no. 13.
and I have asked twice and will ask again, what term would you concoct to describe 'anchor baby'?
I already told you. Go back and read the post.
