Republicans worry Trump's tariffs could harm economy

Anyways, long story short is American manufacturing labor jobs was the highest paid in the world.
That was the goose that laid the golden eggs

Ross Perot warned clinton and gore about the giant sucking sound as jobs moved to mexico and later china

Now America does not have unions to kick around anymore

Or the companies that paid the wages for American workers

I love to point out to people that they can google

Record profits and profit sharing Big 3 1999, 1998, 1997.

The Big 3 were doing great in the 90's. And the employees were getting record profit sharing. It was the greatest economy ever.

In fact, the argument back then my Republican friends made was "hey sealybobo, how do you like the fact that those factory rats make as much as you and you got a college degree?"

I never begrudged those factory rats.

I feel like Michigan survived losing all those manufacturing jobs. But we do have millions of uneducated blue collar workers who will NEVER be paid as well as they were.

A part of me wants Trump to break the unions. Too many of those idiots voted for him.

The unions are neither all good or all bad

Higher pay and benefits is a reasonable goal

But the unions got too powerful and refused to do good work in exchange for their pay

They cut their own throat

Its a result of his last trade war with them. Our exports to Canada never recovered.
Thanks to canadian tariffs

What trump is saying is that if 250% tariffs are ok for them its ok for us too

But canada is trying to protect. $50 billion trade surplus

For the record, I think they are deplorable pieces of shit too. I only defend unions because it's important to a strong middle class. Phylisophically I support unions. But union members? They are horrible human beings. They don't deserve what they make. I hope Trump takes them on. They don't deserve what we have helped them get.

Did you know you are possibly spreading fake news?

No, Canada did not have a $50 billion trade surplus in January 2025, according to Statistics Canada. The country's trade surplus with the world widened to $4.0 billion in January

Your argument would hold if we sold Dairy to the level that triggered the tariffs. We don't.
Now Trump is threatening 50% on aluminum and steel. US manufacturers using that steel will have to raise prices to procure their raw materials or buy other substitutes. Those substitutes will increase in price.

Republicans don't seem to mind that Trump doesn't know what he's doing.

Funny they want to blame Biden for what's going on today. It's really pathetic.

Tesla Tumbles Again As Investors Bail On Elon Musk's Suddenly Struggling Electric Vehicle Company

Shares of Tesla slid again as confidence in Elon Musk’s electric car company continues to disintegrate following a post-election “Trump bump.”

Is this Biden's fault? No. Consumers know Trump is not a fan of EV's. And people who like EV's are not fans of Elon's.

Biden didn't make Elon's stock tumble. Elon did this to himself.

Liar, liar, facediaper on fire......

This is insane. We have absolute concrete evidence that the crashing or stalled economy is directly happening because of things Trump is doing. Yet Republicans here are trying to blame Biden. Saying things like "a new president's policies take over a year before they start affecting the economy either way.

When we see that is absolutely not the case. When a President slaps tariffs on all our trading partners, his impact is felt immediately.

And business leaders are afraid to hire, or spend, because they are afraid of what Trump's going to do next.

THEN the next argument is "there's going to be a little pain fixing what liberals and RINO's broke".

The fact is, what's broken is the uneducated blue collar workers who are underpaid by guys like Trump and Elon. Trump is claiming his policies are going to help them, in about 1-6 years. In the meantime, bend over and take the inflation I cause. Even though I promised to bring prices down on day one.

If you owned company that does business with Canada and Mexico, would you be spending a lot right now or would you basically PAUSE and wait?

And would you be hiring people with a recession that's coming? Blame Biden all you want. The question is, would you be hiring right now with Trump causing chaos on a daily basis? Nope.

Would you be hiring or firing if you were Elon watching your Tesla stocks drop?

I think trump will lose the tariff argument

Its an unforced error on his part beginning with taunting the cannuks over the 51st state bs

if he had led by not insulting our neighbors, but instead only targeting china he would be playing from a stronger position

Later when china tries to avoid the tariffs by transshipping through canada and mexico we can deal with them then

The key words there are “human beings”

We are all flawed creatures

I see the same problem with entitled government workers

Or, our success at producing more high calorie but best tasting food that makes America fat
