The original poster sums up just what is wrong with the political system in the USA. Its this attitude of you must see the World from my point of view or your view is totally wrong. There is no respect for an alternative view, for Americans aswell as Europeans we should be concentrating on those things that bring us together and not divide us, I have absolutely no problems with fiscal conservatives, no problem with big business, no problem with capitalism because even me a hardened liberal realize that its not great but having looked at all the other possibilities its the best of a bad bunch of alternatives.
We had a great series over here on the BBC talking about Communism, Marxism, Capitalism etc and its a shame this wasn't shown on your networks, it was an unbiased documentary, it addressed many of the issues that seem to really polarize your political and media discourse.
I think we have to be realists here, capitalism does have benefits but the key thing which I thing goes to the heart of the US polarization on this is what form this takes. What is wrong with capitalism with a dash of socialism and a bit of compassion and humanity, it doesn't have to be an either or you can have the best of both Worlds.
I think Americans people have to ask themselves what sort of country do they want for their children and grandchildren, what is wrong with some fiscal conservatism that still leaves a safety net for people, this is what really becomes bizarre for us in the UK to understand, we know that Americans are much more religious than here in Europe so we simply can't understand some of the GOP policies which IMO are anti-Christian, at times just down right cruel and inhumane.
Theres nothing wrong with people taking personal responsibility but also sometimes people through no fault of their own fall on hard times, we think its never going to happen to us but it does, even GOP supporters need help sometime, even the TP voters might need this!
So in answer to the original poster no I don't buy this, Obama is not a Commie, or Socialist, he's a Capitalist but believes in a more humane and moral type of capitalism, certainly I think many Americans would rather have the best of both Worlds rather than a rich has everything whilst everyone else gets shafted, the GOP IMO don't represent America, they represent a slide into a type of Capitalism that seeks to divide people, a country where compassion and humanity disappear to be met with a new type of "normal", this normal being the very worst type of capitalism.
