Both parties build up the military to maintain our world empire. It is the only jobs program both sides agree to! Keeps the D.C. lobbyists, the MIC, the Security State and of course the politicians all happy and well fed.

On deficit spending: I don’t believe the Federal Government need worry about this at all, so long as the two parties agree to lift the artificially created political caps on indebtedness periodically and/or “print money” by letting the Fed and Treasury continue to monetarize debt. Or they can simply not borrow and not tax and issue more federal checks directly as Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) proposes. This is most appropriate and is actually being done now during this COVID-induced recession. A financial crisis can hit hard if the Repubs force a shut down of government by refusing to play along. Weakening of the dollar may occur gradually as at present, or rapidly if the empire collapses on itself, but so far it seems most likely this will be very gradual.

The party that first and most openly embraces MMT on the Federal level will have a big political advantage. But how freely-issued “created money” is to be spent — just like how some now fret about how “collected” federal tax money is spent — this will remain the crucial political fight. I don’t think the working people have much chance of winning this fight, given present consciousness and corporate power.

First it takes two branches of government to spend. The best combo is a Democratic President and a Republican Congress. That happened with Gingrich and Clinton. Within two months of the Bush Presidency with the Dot com bust we went into a recession, and during that recession was 911 which triggered more spending. During Trump the bulk of that spending was for the coronavirus pandemic and trillions more is waiting to be spent. President can ask for money, Congress is the one that authorizes the spending.

I see no redemption on either side. I would like to see Biden and a Republican congress.
