Today I received a Social Security COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) notification. My yearly Social Security DD (direct deposit) just went up an incredible, pitiful $31/month (2.8%) This is at time when the whole country knows that housing rents (112 Million renters in America) have been skyrocketing.

So my rent goes up (not so long go) $108/month (10%) & to cover for that my SS increases $31. (2.8%)
Last year was abut the same > $104/month & $34/mo.

Well, I have also a VA pension, smaller than the Social Security, but every little bit helps. So what did my VA pension go up ? Believe this or not folks, it went up a whopping 7 CENTS/month.
With 210 apartments here and most of us on Social Security, everybody has been talking (or yelling) about this insulting, disgusting COLA "increase". Nobody cares about Jeffery Epstein, or who went to his goofball island 30 years ago.

I am sick and tired of hearing from all the intellectuals and all their charts & studies, telling us inflation is at 3%, when we see 10% increases in rent EVERY YEAR (most expensive constantly ongoing expense), and many people are seeing even bigger/worse increases.

Hey dudes, I don't know about you, but when I see my rent jump $108 month, that's how much I want to see my Social Security jump, and not a dime less. Is the media covering THIS ?

Your social security payments will be going down dramatically in a few years. If we got rid of welfare it wouldnt be an issue, but Democrats will never let welfare go, so in the near future both are going to get cut. Dems will hold out until the US starts defaulting on interest payments, at which point our nation will not be able to afford these programs anymore. If we made some decent cuts now, it would extend the life of these programs, but again, Dems will never allow it, so these programs WILL go bust.

Welfare programs should be declining significantly, due to the exit of 2+ million illegal aliens. The number for 2025 is projected to be even higher.

In any case, there is still is a reality detachment when it comes to inflation, when for 4 years now, we've been seeing far higher inflations in Housing, gas prices , food, etc than the Biden & Trump administrations have been telling us.

You only get ~$1100 a month from Social Security?

How are your investment accounts doing? You should have them in low-risk funds, heavy on bonds and fortune five hundred.

What would you think about no-rent retirement housing for seniors, with cafeteria style food provided? In exchange for cash SS payments?

If you are retirement age, and you are still renting an apartment, you screwed up, years ago and will probably take what you get now. You could have had a VA home loan, possibly with no down payment, payments less than rent, while building equity, and should have paid it off before turning 60.

Don't have any securities. Nobody in my 2 building complex has any.

Depends on how much the SS payments would be - there are more things needed beside food & housing.

You have a limited view of housing, in general. I could have a VA home loan now, last year, and the year before - no thanks.

It would cost a million $$ to equal amenities what I have now in my apartment, plus with full maintenance free.

Mowing lawns, replacing refrigerators, AC & heating systems, hurricane-proof windows, secure numerous doors & windows, swimming pool maintenance, etc. No thanks, I'm perfectly secure where I am, but just get those Social Security DDs in harmony with REAL INFLATION, that's all.

AND you can now please get back on topic. :)

Please stay on topic - the cheapskate Social Security Admin.

Bro how can you complain when you've literally voted your entire life to end social security and cut VA benefits

I've never voted for that either as a Republican (2016-2025), Independent (2009-2016), or a Democrat (1968 - 2008)

I'm 35, own a home and have a great pension plan. Life is good.
When you're 75, you wont think that home is so good. And pension plans disappear like bubbles.

Part of the problem with the low increase in SS COLA is the increase in the Medicare Part A and B deduction that they will take out. The fact is that the US Gov't cannot afford to keep pace with inflation for the entitlement programs, we are already seeing deficits of approx $2 trillion and that is just not sustainable. Both programs are out of control.

Like what? Medicare for healthcare and food and shelter. What more do you need?

Ifvyoubretired from the military, you had ~20 years of work left. You should have plowed all retirement pay into retirement accounts. With healthcare taken care of, you wouldnt need a big salary to like well.

Okay, that didnt happen for whatever reason. Maybe you got some bad breaks.

But if your plan is to now live off the sweat of others, it behooves you to live both frugally and gratefully.

1. Where do you get this oddball idea about "live off the sweat of others". I'm talking about Social Security, which I paid into for 50 years. MY sweat, not "others".

I'm also talking about my VA pension, which I served in the military fir 6 years for.

As for rents, it is improper to let a relatively small group of greed freaks control the lives of 112 million Americans, gouging them out of all their available money, in addition to destroying millions of US businesses, large & small, by wiping out the disposable $$$ people have to buy the things those businesses are trying to sell.

If the Social Security increases were adequate, that would take care of the skyrocketing rents problem, but wouldn't it be better to fix the cause rather than stick band aids on ?

2. Like what!! Like everything. Clothing, pet food, veterinarians, home electronics, furniture, musical instruments, etc.

So you are opposed to Social Security ? How abot VA pensions ? VA healthcare
