The Republican politicians in Texas who kowtowed to Trump without consulting the state's electorate (as did California) will have some explaining to do:​

A federal court in Texas on Tuesday blocked Texas from using a new congressional map intended to flip several Democratic-held U.S. House of Representatives seats to Republicans in the 2026 midterm elections, faulting Governor Greg Abbott for directing the legislature to draw it based on race.​

... was designed to undermine the voting power of people of color. That is a violation of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and protections under the Fifteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.​

“The racial composition of these new districts cannot be explained by partisanship, and they really focused on race, just as they were told to do, and all of that is illegal,” Weiner said.​

Added voting rights attorney Chad Dunn: "It's not a particularly close case. It has been the law for decades, long before even the Voting Rights Act was passed, that a legislature cannot draw districts on the basis of race, and that’s exactly what the [Texas state] legislature did here."​
