Republican Controlled House fails to pass law to protect US against Ebola threat!

Dont think Congress has the authority in this instance......Either DHS or CDC maybe......I doubt any legislation is needed.

.

Make no mistake that Congress, and only Congress, has the power to “regulate commerce “with foreign Nations” [Article 1, Section 8, Clause 3].

From available information I have gathered it is only too clear that an infected person traveling to the United States in an airplane or ship can transmit and infect other passengers by sneezing or coughing or physically coming in contact with them.

SEE:Droplets from coughs and sneezes travel farther than you think

"It is common knowledge that when we cough or sneeze, we should cover our mouth and nose with a tissue to prevent germs from becoming airborne. Now, new research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology suggests this instruction is more important than ever; they found that droplets from coughs or sneezes can travel up to 200 times farther than previously thought."

Also see: Can Ebola spread by coughing? By sneezing?

”Unlike respiratory illnesses like measles or chickenpox, which can be transmitted by virus particles that remain suspended in the air after an infected person coughs or sneezes, Ebola is transmitted by direct contact with body fluids of a person who has symptoms of Ebola disease. Although coughing and sneezing are not common symptoms of Ebola, if a symptomatic patient with Ebola coughs or sneezes on someone, and saliva or mucus come into contact with that person’s eyes, nose or mouth, these fluids may transmit the disease.”

So, the Ebola virus can be transmitted by an infected person coughing or sneezing while in transit to the United States in an airplane or ship. And it also seems quite clear that contaminated particulate matter from a cough or sneeze can travel a considerable distance through the air, much farther than originally thought, and if it lands on a non-infected person’s eyes, mouth, or is breathed in, that person may become infected.

It is also important to note that Some Ebola experts worry virus may spread more easily than assumed

Dr. C.J. Peters, who battled a 1989 outbreak of the virus among research monkeys housed in Virginia and who later led the CDC's most far-reaching study of Ebola's transmissibility in humans, said he would not rule out the possibility that it spreads through the air in tight quarters.

"We just don't have the data to exclude it," said Peters, who continues to research viral diseases at the University of Texas in Galveston.

Now, with all this information available which establishes people traveling to the United States who are carriers of the Ebola virus present a clear and present danger to America's population, why has the Republican controlled House failed to pass legislation which is designed to protect America’s population from foreign commerce? And, this same question applies to the Democrat controlled Senate!

When will the America People realize we have a Muslim terrorist enabler in the Whitehouse? Will the American People come to this conclusion when terrorist activities begin in our southern Border States or cities like New York City?

Maybe ask the ACLU and Obama administration

ACLU Airlines Pushed Obama To Lift Quarantine Rules On Sick Travelers - Downtrend

I didn't know that. Appreciate the link!

ETA: Holy toledo! If the airlines objected back then saying it would be too costly wait and see what happens if ebola spreads via airline passengers. Yikes!

Funny how libs called such suggestions to cut flights from those countries as panic just yesterday..........can ya say hyocrites......knew ya could

  • Kenya on 10 October announced that it had closed the Suam border crossing (Trans-Nzoia county) with Uganda due to reports of an Ebola-related death in Bukwo district (Uganda). Earlier, the Kenyan authorities on 19 August suspended entry of passengers travelling from and through Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, excluding health professionals supporting efforts to contain the outbreak and Kenyan citizens.
  • Cape Verde on 5 Octoberprohibited the entry of all North Americans and non-resident foreigners who had visited the US in the past 30 days. Earlier, nationals of Guinea, Sierra Leone, Nigeria and Liberia on 19 September were banned from entering Cape Verde for the next three months. The authorities have also banned entry to all non-residents who have visited Ebola-affected countries, including Congo (DRC), in the past 30 days; on 1 September, Senegal was added to this list.
  • Cameroon on 17 September reopened its borders to travellers from Senegal. An 18 August ban remains in place on travel from Nigeria, Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
  • Mauritius on 12 September announced that it would restrict entry of nationals from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia, Senegal and Congo (DRC) unless prior approval was obtained from the Passport and Immigration Office.
  • Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states – Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe – have stated that travellers coming from Ebola-affected countries (according to the World Health Organisation, WHO) would be monitored for 21 days and that travel to member countries for any gatherings would be discouraged. The SADC provided no details as to how member countries will carry out the associated screening and follow-up and it is likely that countries will have individual processes. There are also reports that some countries require health documentation for entry. Travellers are advised to contact the embassy or health ministry of their destination country to clarify their individual circumstances and prepare their trips accordingly.
  • South Sudan has placed a ban on travellers coming from Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia or Congo (DRC), or those who have travelled to those countries in the preceding 21 days. According to the health ministry, entry of travellers from Nigeria depends on their travel history in that country and whether they have visited Ebola-affected areas.
  • Namibia's foreign ministry on 11 September announced that foreigners travelling from countries affected by Ebola would be prohibited from entering the country.
  • Gambia on 1 September suspended entry of persons who have visited Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone or Nigeria in the 21 days prior to travel. Those travelling indirectly from any of the aforementioned countries to Gambia via another country also come under this measure.
  • Côte d'Ivoire announced on 23 August that it had closed its land borders with Guinea and Liberia.
  • Gabon stated on 22 August that it is restricting the issuance of entry visas to travellers from Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria on a case-by-case basis.
  • Rwanda, according to the US Department of State on 22 August, has banned entry to travellers who have visited Guinea, Liberia or Sierra Leone in the 22 days prior to travel.
  • Senegal on 21 August closed its land border with Guinea, while the country's sea and air borders will also be closed to vessels and aircraft from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
  • Chad on 21 August closed its land border with Nigeria at Lake Chad. The country previously reportedly banned the entry of any travellers originating or transiting through Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria or Sierra Leone, with airlines serving the country reportedly rerouting flights.
  • South Africa on 21 August restricted entry for all non-citizens travelling from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. The government subsequently clarified that this was not a blanket ban and could be waived for 'absolutely essential travel'.
  • Kenya on 19 August suspended entry of passengers travelling from and through Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, excluding health professionals supporting efforts to contain the outbreak and Kenyan citizens.
Flights and other transport

Countries that have implemented Ebola-related travel restrictions:

  • Gambia has banned the entry of flights from Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
  • Gabon has banned the entry of flights and ships from countries affected by Ebola.
  • Senegal has banned flights from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
  • Cameroon has banned flights to and from Nigeria.
  • Chad has suspended all flights from Nigeria.
  • Côte d'Ivoire has banned all passenger flights from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
  • Nigeria has suspended flights to the country operated by Gambian national carrier Gambia Bird.
Details of airlines that have restricted flights to Ebola-affected countries:

  • Air France suspended flights to Sierra Leone from 28 August.
  • The Togo-based carrier Asky Airlines has suspended flights to and from Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
  • Arik Air (Nigeria), Gambia Bird and Kenya Airways have suspended services to Liberia and Sierra Leone.
  • British Airways has extended their suspension of flights to Liberia and Sierra Leone until 31 December.
  • Emirates Airlines has suspended flights to Guinea.
  • Korean Air suspended flights to and from Kenya from 20 August.
  • Senegal Airlines has suspended flights to and from Conakry (Guinea) until further notice.
Other airlines have modified their routes but are still operating regular scheduled services. These include:

  • Royal Air Maroc
  • Brussels Airlines.
Medical screening

Entry and exit health screening is now in place in numerous countries in the region and elsewhere; related measures can include the partial closure of land borders, ports and river crossings in an effort to restrict cross-border travel. Members should allow additional time to pass through medical screening and not travel if they are sick. Staff should continue to monitor local media and this website for developments.

Travel Advice Summary

  • Defer non-essential travel to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
  • Travellers flying from countries affected by Ebola should enquire with the relevant embassies or health ministries about any requirements conditioning entry at their destination, and prepare accordingly.
  • Reconfirm bookings on all regional routes as increased demand is likely. We do not hold information on specific flights.
  • Allow additional time during arrival and departure to pass through enhanced medical screening.
  • Do not travel if you are sick. Persons with fever or other Ebola-like symptoms may be taken to designated centres or have entry/exit denied.

Ebola

I see sev libs in the thread as for the op not much info on his page doesnt seem to post much so I have no way to verify your claim

Somebody might want to get serious about the matter since there are only 19 lev 4 biocontainment hospital beds in the US..............

Sick%2BJoke.jpg

Uh dumbfuck (OP).....Obama is the one that can shutdown flights from African countries sending Ebola carriers to this country, but he doesn't want to do it because it would be "racist."

Liberal scum believe it is RACIST to block blacks carrying Ebola from coming to the US to threaten us while demanding FREE fucking medical care.

Ebola is the perfect disease to equate to Obama.

Both destroy their victim from the inside.

Obama is destroying this country with his policies from within.

Obama = Ebola for the USA.

This has nothing to do with "regulating commerce"...semantic distortions don't help your case.

This is about a rapidly spreading third world disease with no cure that is now in america.

Is obama the president?

And what constitutionally delegated power does the president have to deal with the Ebola virus coming in at our ports of entry?

JWK
He can order an embargo of those Countries, he can order that INS no longer accept people from that Country so long as the virus is active. The President chose to eliminate the very procedures required to prevent it's spread. He controls the executive departments which control who enters and comes in our Country.

And what constitutionally authorized power allows the president to do those things? The president is not authorized to set public policy, nor has power to regulate commerce at our ports of entry.

Our pinkos in Washington want a crisis. Have we forgotten when they declared to never let a crisis go to waste?

America we have a problem! We have a group of domestic enemies who have managed to gain political power and whose mission is in fact to bring “change” to America ___ the dismantling of our military defensive power; the disarming of the American Citizen; the allowance of our borders to be overrun by foreign invaders, the diluting of our election process by allowing ineligible persons to vote; the circumvention of our Republican Form of Government by Executive Orders; a continual attack upon the right to freedom of speech and a free press; the weakening and destruction of our manufacturing capabilities by tyrannical regulation; the transferring of America’s weapons of defense and military technology to hostile foreign nations; the strangulation of our agricultural industry and ability to produce food under the guise of environmental necessity; the infringement upon the American People’s inalienable right to make their own choices and decisions regarding their health care and medical needs; the intentional sabotaging of our nation’s health care delivery system, the taking of private property for purposes other than a “public use” as limited by our federal Constitution; the use of federal taxing powers in a manner unauthorized by the legislative intent of our Constitution, and particularly violating the rule of apportioning “direct“ taxes; the interference with our ability to develop our natural resources, namely oil, coal and natural gas to fuel our economy; the looting of both our federal treasury and an unconstitutional federally mandated retirement fund; the brainwashing of our nation’s children in government operated schools; the trashing of our nation’s traditions and moral values; the creation of an iron fisted control unauthorized by our written Constitution over America’s businesses and industries; the devaluation of our nation’s currency by Federal Reserve Notes, a worthless script, having been despotically made a legal tender for all debts public and private, and, the future enslavement of our children and grandchildren via unbridled debt and inflation, not to mention an iron fisted government which intends to rule their very lives!

2nd health care worker tests positive for Ebola at Dallas hospital

Wed October 15, 2014

CNN) -- A second health care worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital who cared for Thomas Eric Duncan has tested positive for Ebola, health officials said Wednesday -- casting further doubt on the hospital's ability to handle Ebola and protect employees.

I wonder when Congress will step up and take the necessary action to protect the American People from the threat of Ebola entering our ports of entry.

are you nuts ? the son-of-a-bitch does everything else by EO, he can do this also by EO, but will NOT because it will damage his agenda to continue to destroy America.

I sincerely wish I could agree with you. But I will not let a complicit Congress off the hook when it has been assigned exclusive power to regulate commerce, and that includes adopting inspection laws at our ports of entry which could be immediately passed to prevent the entry of Ebola at our ports of entry.

Even if one stopped direct flights from certain countries, it would be nothing at all for an infected person to fly to a country that wasn't on the list and board a plane for America.

You have never traveled internationally, have you?
You don't even have a passport, do you?
travelers can be traced from embarkation to final destination..Don't kid yourself.
what does it matter....if the infected person from Liberia, is now in the UK, then anyone from the UK, who has not traveled to the infectious countries, yet come in contact with and contracted it from the Liberian with Ebola that traveled to their country, could be carrying it....and tracking their travels through their passport, is meaningless...

plus we have worldwide trade, coming in to our ports...with open access to spread the disease.
