If you want to know whose side is more "obsessed with the gay thing," all you have to do is ask yourself which side of the political spectrum is more likely to have closeted gays who are hiding their orientation from the public. Is it liberal Democrats, or is it conservative Republicans?

An excellent point...who talks about male gay sex in graphic terms the most? Who becomes overly defensive and acts like they have a personal stake in NOT being perceived as gay? Who seems to hold it in for a while and then suddenly bursts out with a wave of anti-homosexual vitrole or gets caught in the "wide-stance" or with a male prostitute they are just "socializing" with? Who flashes the Hetero credentials in our face so much that it becomes a caracature? Who puts up the public image of a rough, tough hard drinking hetero with the hard drinking giving excuses for forays outside of the hetero box?

Here's an interesting bit of information for you. Occasionally, I used to watch the late Jerry Falwell's Sunday morning broadcast. It was called "The Old Time Gospel Hour." In truth, his show often had more to do with politics than with religion. But I had been fascinated with the mixing of religion and politics for many years, and watching his show was a window into that world.

At any rate, as much as Falwell was vehemently anti-gay, he actually hawked (sold) tapes of gay pride parades and other public displays which exposed his viewers and supporters to certain aspects of parts of "alternative lifestyles" that they otherwise would never have seen. It just seemed odd to me. I know that one of his motivations was to try to shock his television audience, but he was actually constantly exposing his viewers to the very militant elements of the gay lifestyle that he claimed he was trying to protect them from. And this happened on a fairly regular basis. There definitely was something weird about it. After a while, I just couldn't help but get the impression that Falwell was somehow drawn (as in, attracted) to the imagery.
