Putin-ally Bashar al-Assad is said to have fled to Russia with his wife and children earlier this week, according to unconfirmed rumours.
It comes after the Islamist insurgents in Syria were seen toppling a statue of Bashar al-Assad's brother after they stormed Aleppo.

Insurgents were filmed outside police headquarters, in the city center, and outside the Aleppo Citadel. They tore down posters of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, stepping on some and burning others.

Syrian rebels sweep into Aleppo in an embarrassing rout for Bashar al-Assad

Damn, things are really getting 'sporty" there.

Who's backing the Islamist insurgents in Syria......Saudi Arabia or Iran?

Hard to keep up these days but I'm sure it will become Israel's problem by and by.

Coup Underway in Damascus As Two Major Cities Fall to Islamist Insurgents;

Assad and Family Flee

30 Nov 2024 ``~~ By Streiff

Multiple sources report that a military coup may be underway in Damascus. The Republican Guard is reportedly engaged in combat with a division of the Syrian Army. Ordinarily, the Republican Guard is the regime protection force, but the situation is so confused in Syria that it is hard to tell. Speculation has identified the coup leader as a member of Assad's inner circle.

This is just another in a series of signs that the Bashar al-Assad regime is in its last days.
Yesterday, Aleppo fell after a 72-hour offensive; see Assad Loyalists and Russians in Headlong Retreat After Surprise Rebel Offensive on Aleppo. To put it in context, Aleppo has been controlled by Assad's forces since 2011. Today, two other major Syrian cities have fallen to the insurgents: Hamah and Homs.

Bottom line
The insurgent breakthrough toward Damascus and the inability of the Syrian Army to rally is not a good sign for Assad. The initial interpretation of the offensive taking place while Assad was out of the country as a sign that the regime was caught flatfooted now seems, to me, to be in error. Assad was in Moscow with his family while Russia's foreign minister and Putin were out of the country. So, it clearly was not a state visit. It is beginning to look like he knew what was coming. If a coup is underway in Damascus, there is a high probability that it will succeed, and an immediate attempt will be made to reach an arrangement with the insurgents. What happens then is anyone's guess.

Commentary:
I thought for a minute that the report may have been mistaken and Asaad had flown to Massachusetts and the home of John Francois Kerry.
They always seemed such good friends.
As I've mentioned before. This can be good news or bad news. Just who are the Islamist insurgents? Are they aligned with ISIL, the Kurds, Turkey?
What is their identity?
For the U.S. there's nothing in it for us.
For us? Nothing good. Libya and Syria were idiot moves by Barry Hussein and Hillary Clinton to get oil contacts for their cronies
In Dec 2015 all the Presidential candidates, but Trump, were trying to out macho each other about establishing a no fly zone over Syria to prevent Russia supporting Assad.
Trump got my unreserved support when he spoke out against it.
Syria been a Russian client state since the 1950s. We have no US National interest there
There’s no question in my mind that an attempted “colour revolution” promoted by the usual suspects is underway.
The Neo-Marxist Democrat, Putin shills will make a big deal of it.

So Obama…I mean Biden, finally got the radical Sunni Muslims terrorists, who are totally not ISIS, their victory in Syria before President Trump returns to office since he would had pulled all support of the radical Sunni Muslim terrorists, who are totally not ISIS, that have been wanting to overthrow Assad and install an Islamic Caliphate.

The jury is still out. We'll all find out soon enough....

Assad is strongly backed by Iran. If Assad is gone and Hezbullah neutered Iran has been seriously backfooted.

Assad strikes back: Syrian rebel leader 'is killed in Russian airstrike' after his forces seized Aleppo and marched on Damascus threatening dictator's regime - forcing ISRAEL to plan to go in if situation deteriorates

30 Nov 2024 ~~ By OLIVIA CHRISTIE, MIRIAM KUEPPER & SABRINA PENTY

A Syrian rebel leader may have been killed in a Russian airstrike on a terrorist hideout after his forces seized Aleppo in a shock offensive, local media has reported.
Abu Mohammad al-Julani, the current commander-in-chief of the Hay'at Tahrir al-Shamgroup, is understood to have been inside the building at the time of the attack.
Syrian newspaper Al-Watan reported that a tight security cordon has reportedly been place around the organisation's headquarters - but whether Al-Julani's has been killed or not is yet to be confirmed.
The terrorist is one of the most prominent leaders of the armed factions that have been engaged in battles with the Syrian army and he has a £7.9m bounty on his head.
It comes after President Assad's forces warned in a statement on Saturday that they had redeployed and were planning a counterattack.
Meanwhile, Israel is said to be preparing for a scenario where it would need to act if the situation deteriorates.
Intelligence chiefs have reportedly told Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu 'the collapse of the Assad regime would likely create chaos in which military threats against Israel would develop.'
Al Qaeda-linked rebels advanced south towards Damascus on Saturday, a day after they captured Aleppo with little resistance from government troops.

Fitton-Brown said that his former colleagues at the UN monitoring team for the Taliban 'have consistently argued that Assad would never be able to get the genie back in the bottle and that the majority who oppose him would eventually resurge.'
'This is why ISIS and AQ affiliated groups have stayed, regardless of how many have been arrested or killed.'

Commentary:
Israel doesn’t need any more problems.
Is this Turks being Turks?
In my experience Turks see themselves as the victims of everybody 1,000 miles around.
Could this ne another AQ uprising funded by the Taliban?
It makes no difference if the “victimizer” is Muslim or not.
Who and what is the Islamist militant group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham?
Seems that The group was set up in 2011 under a different name, Jabhat al-Nusra, as a direct affiliate of Al Qaeda.
Additionally, there’s no way Trump is going to allow Syria to become one enormous ISIS caliphate. It will be destroyed from the air in the same way the last ISIS caliphate was. It will become a failed state and make the Middle East even more dangerous if such a thing was possible.

More Russian strikes as we speak .

The brave Russian pilots will quickly clear up the mess which reflects Bish Bash's poor security measures .

Naughty CIA for trying to deflect from Tel Aviv internal disarray and the IDF taking such a thumping on all fronts .

Probably Iran

not likely---Assad likes Iran---he is an ALAWITE MUSLIM which ------I have been told-----is ok with Shiite. But there are lots of Syrians who do not like
Assad and his bombs on civilians
Nature abhors a Vacuum .. Everyone forgets that Assad’s Daddy slaughtered some say as many as 40000 of his own people in an uprising in the city of Hama years ago and like his daddy the current Assad used chemical weapons and other means to quell an uprising some 13 years ago so the apple does not far from the tree… It is interesting to note that After the rebels entered Damascus Sunday night and announced the fall of the Assad regime, Fahd Masri, the founder of the defunct National Salvation Front and spokesperson for the Free Syrian Army, spoke with the Arab affairs commentator of i24NEWS, Baruch Yedid, to thank Israel for its “contribution” to the dramatic events.

“Without the blows you inflicted on Hezbollah and Iran, we could not free Syria,” Masri said. “Thank you, Israel. This is an Israeli victory, our brothers and neighbors.”

He added that he wished “a peace of love and respect” between Israelis and Syrians. “This is a morning of victory!”

“We will build peace with you,” he said regarding the future between the countries. One can only hope this is the case and that Syria can rebuild with dignity and that peace can be achieved in the region…. But like I said nature abhors a Vacuum and with the removal of Iranian proxies like Hezbullah and a Iran itself as well Russian and other non combatants hopefully Turkey will not rush to fill the void as we know what Erdogan says behind closed doors… But regardless Iran is definitely on the loosing end here Thatis for sure…..

It's longshot----but I hope Masri is influential

Well I suppose we will find out if it is Taqiyya( permisable lying in Islam) or not… I believe the guy in charge is originally Jordanian he might have his sights on Jordan after he consolidates power in Syria and Israel afterwards so Israel could be facing a new ring surrounding it… My take is that the Alawites who controlled Syria with only 10 per cent of the population are going to be replaced with a Sunni majority who will either respect the minorities in the country or they will not… They do not really have a good track record elsewhere … The Kurds really should have their own country and I don’t trust Erdogan of Turkey…Time will tell when you play the game of Risk and you spread your forces out to thinly you can easily get overrun and defeated ….
