Even a Ceasefire with the Hostile Arab Palestinians (AKA: HoAP - Palestinian militants) is going to be tough, given all the various players that have to be given a voice. For an example, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), while affiliated with HAMAS, is not subordinate to HAMAS Leadership. For another example, the Palestinian Authority (PA) does not have the same relationship with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), as it has with the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). And then, there is a question as to whom the ceasefire is negotiated with? Is such a ceasefire to cover the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and Jerusalem? OR, are the people of the GAZA Strip being treated as a separate government?

This is one of those rumors of "peace!" --- I'll believe it when I see it. What would be truly astonishing and surprising is if it actually works.

HAMAS did not want to negotiate for peace. HAMAS wanted to manipulate the peace process in their favor for both the domestic audience (demonstrating how they were so much more effective that the Palestinian Authority/PLO) and multiple foreign audiences (the Superpowers, the EU and the Arab League). This would make the Middle East Quartet (the United Nations, the United States, the European Union, and Russia) look impotent and obsolete as a bargaining unit.

HAMAS wanted to appear to (if not actually) dictate the terms for peace, thereby weakening the PA/PLO and diminishing the importance of the Morocco Resolution [(1974)(independent national authority under the command of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people in any Palestinian territory that is liberated)]. Since the time of the Morocco Resolution, over four decades ago, the PA/PLO has not managed to liberate any territory except the Gaza Strip. And that success was largely due to the unilateral decision of the Israelis; and, HAMAS became the defacto government.

The Arab Palestinians are a bunch that portrays situations in a melodramatic way, and seeking political acknowledgment, public praises and international acclaim which would ultimately pay-off in terms of influence and power. And with this influence and power comes wealth and opportunity.
