House Budget Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan drafted a plan with Patty Murray which would cut veterans benefits. He now Doubles Down on Cutting Veteran Pensions

What Paul Ryan intentionally refuses to acknowledge is, of the defined and limited powers granted to our federal government by our Constitution which are intended to promote the general welfare of the United States, one just happens to be its power over our nation’s military. Unlike the countless federal government free-cheese programs not authorized by our Constitution and which work to balloon our annual federal deficits, providing for our nation’s veterans is a legitimate and constitutionally based obligation.

Ryan’s “reforms” ought to begin with a twenty percent cut of every social welfare program which is not within the defined and limited powers granted to our federal government. To not do so is to advance the pinko progressive agenda which has made our productive members of society tax slaves to those enjoying the ride on Obama’s free-cheese wagon.

Only a progressive snake who ignores the intentions and beliefs under which our Constitution was adopted would agree to cut veterans benefits, especially when our nation’s veterans have not only put their lives on the line for our country, but millions have become disabled in the process.

Let us work to remove this progressive snake from office this coming election and replace him with one who not only supports our nation’s military, but will work to end free government cheese which is destroying our country from within.

Reaching across the aisle and bipartisanship is Washington Newspeak to subvert the Constitution and screw the American People.

Project much?
I am a vet but come on. This bleeding eyes of retention is all but over blown drama.

Pinko progressives, why that is right out of the Archie Bunker Nam era hyperbole. Tells your age and small minded ability to grasp that the GOP is not conservative, nor is it anti-welfare.

Obama free cheese program?

Government cheese is processed cheese that was provided to welfare, food stamp recipients and the elderly receiving Social Security in the United States, from the 1960s through to the early 1990s.

One part of the bill has become particularly controversial: the reduction in cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) for working-age military retirees. The federal government has no greater obligation than to keep the American people safe and we must take care of the men and women in uniform who put their lives on the line. For that reason, Congress is understandably hesitant to make changes to military compensation.

But even hesitance has a cost. The need for reform is undeniable. Since 2001, excluding the costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the cost per service member in the active-duty force has risen by 41% in inflation-adjusted dollars.

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel, a combat vet himself, has said "that we can no longer put off military compensation reform. DOD's leadership, Chairman Dempsey, the service chiefs, the service secretaries, and myself, we all know that we need to slow cost growth in military compensation. Otherwise, we'll have to make disproportionate cuts to military readiness and modernization."

Paul Ryan: Retirement pay can't take over defense budget

Makes sense to me

The rate of increase on all of the budget should be cut across the board per capita, and that includes military, but military should be concurrent with everything else, or last.

A politician who cuts spending is generally called a "conservative," not a "progressive."

Hope that lesson in Political Science 101 helped you.

Unless he cuts where the OP doesn't want cuts.

Hey folks, its gonna take hard decisions to fix this fiscal mess.

Bottom line is this, and it may be uncomfortable: All government employees raised their hands, and said "I want to work for taxpayer money", and accepted all the perks of government work.

Well......We The Taxpayer are broke. We can no longer afford sweetheart 20 year retirement, full benefits for life for a whole family, guaranteed raises and promotions. The real world doesn't work like that.

A true conservative knows a business mind is NOT emotional or sentimental. Cold, hard choices must be made. Welfare and food stamps must be cut. Medicare stuff too. And sorry, but yes, time for us to cut the military spending down to a level the taxpayer can live with. Its a business decision.

Good for Paul. Get emotion out of it. We cant afford this anymore.

Awesome display of conservatives eating their own for heresy. I personally do not think any benefit cuts should ever be directed at veterans but truth be told, politicians of both parties are guilty of discarding soldiers when they are no longer needed to fight the shitty little wars we have been fighting since Nam.

Anyone who cuts government spending across the bord is fiscally conservative. Don't see how this is being progressive?

No, "our own" would agree with it. Any real conservative knows you cannot take government spending and combine it with emotion or sentiment. If one thinks otherwise, they aren't "our own" they are libtards.

Its plain and simple: Government employees of any kind must accept they work for tax money, they volunteered to work for tax money. So, when the TAX PAYER is broke, they too must accept less. Period. No emotion. No sentiment.

He's not a Progressive, he's  a Randian. He forces his staff, although i think they're prolly eager to read that rw drivel if they apply to his office, to read Ayn :tinfoil:

Ayn Rand - RationalWiki
Ayn Rand was a Russian atheist,[2] the author of vast doorstop-sized tomes like Atlas Shrugged and the ripped-off biography The Fountainhead, and other thick, boring books espousing, essentially, psychotic libertarian themes and ideology.

Great idea. Let;s get rid of all those government workers that are being paid taxpayers hard earned money. Let's shut down the FAA. After all the airlines will service their planes in a timely manner. Then we shut down the Park Service. Who needs national parks? They are just a waste. Then let's shutdown the FDA. The drug companies can be trusted to put out safe products and think of the money saved not checking food being shipped into this country. Oh, and as for the military, they should be the first one to have their pensions taken from them. After all, THEY WERE PAID WHILE THEY WERE ON THE JOB. THEY SHOULD HAVE PUT MONEY AWAY TO PREPARE FOR THEIR RETIREMENT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. And so on with ALL the government agencies.
Then when hundreds of thousands of people find themselves on the streets with no money, no health care, no food, no shelter, and no chance for a job they can die and decrease the surplus population. The important thing is not the people who work for the government or the work they perform, IT IS THE BOTTOM LINE!
(Did I get it right? Have I captured the spirit of your post?)

At least conservatives are consistent in their ignorance of, or contempt for, the Constitution and its case law.

The Constitution affords Congress powers both enumerated and implied. See McCulloch v. Maryland (1819).

Consequently, “but that’s not in the Constitution” is a failed and ignorant ‘argument.’

One almost has pity for Ryan, having to put up with such conservative ignorance and stupidity.

Almost.

if we bleed for you and fight your wars, then you can find the money....we gave a blank check payable to the US, the same can be returned to us and should be....

Not arguing your larger point...but when it comes to military spending, "what the taxpayer can live with", can quickly become what he will die with if your enemy becomes stronger than you.

Bullshit, When you guys beat the war drum no thought is given to the aftermath, you want big explosions, body counts and The glory of being victorious in battle if that isn't emotional I do not know what is. That shit has a price and by god conservatives are going to pay it. Our country promised these men and women something for their real courage in fighting a war and to try to skip out on the bill for your wars is monstrous.

did you leave out corporate welfare & tax loopholes for the well-to-do for a reason?

Veterans certainly trust Ryan far more than the reactionaries of the far right. Fact.
