I thought OPs were supposed to contain some kind of opinion. They are when I do 'em.
Anyway one is reminded of the New York state legislature of .... well exactly a hundred years ago as it happens, when several duly elected Assemblymen were first suspended from being seated, and then expelled, on the basis of their political party. After condemning the Speaker's action the Governor (Al Smith) called a special election to fill the vacancies, whereupon the five Assemblymen were elected again to the same seats. Three were again expelled, and the other two resigned in protest of the first three.
