Dave Wasserman, U.S. House editor at the nonpartisan Cook Political report, wrote in a Monday blog post that despite the boost Republicans are getting from reapportionment, the real gains will come from the fact that the GOP wields greater control over the redistricting process due to the party’s grip on power at the state level . . . .

Districts have been redrawn to the advantage of the party in power in the state for a very long time (and no one with an above room temperature IQ believes the democrats wouldn't be doing the exact same thing if they were in power, and claiming to be virtuous at the same time). Not so much adding justices to the SC until you get the rulings you want.
