Redistricting alone could give Republicans control of the House in 2022, experts say

Well now, here's a story everyone seems to be missing:

QUOTE:
The Census Bureau released the preliminary findings of its 2020 U.S. population count on Monday, setting the stage for a once-in-a-decade congressional redistricting process that could in itself be enough to give the Republican Party the five additional House seats needed to recapture the majority following the 2022 midterm elections.

Under the new count, California, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia will each lose a congressional seat. Colorado, Florida, Montana, North Carolina, Oregon and Florida will gain one seat, while Texas will add two.

“New census data and reapportionment add challenges for the Democrats in the midterm elections,” wrote Sarah Bianchi, political analyst at Evercore ISI, in a Tuesday note to clients, pointing out that states that President Joe Biden won in the 2020 election lost a net three congressional seats.

“The outcome was not as bad for Democrats as some thought it would be, and there is a long way to go in terms of mapping congressional districts for 2022. However there is no question that on balance it favors Republicans,” Bianchi added. “Based on historical odds, Democrats already face challenges to keep the House in 2022 as the party that holds the White House on average loses 27 seats, far greater than the slim majority Democrats hold today.”

Dave Wasserman, U.S. House editor at the nonpartisan Cook Political report, wrote in a Monday blog post that despite the boost Republicans are getting from reapportionment, the real gains will come from the fact that the GOP wields greater control over the redistricting process due to the party’s grip on power at the state level . . . .

I can already hear the whining about Gerrymandering. It's going to be fun!

Lol. Republicans are never winning another election again. Once all of the white supremacists are in jail, the majority of their voters will be gone.

Hopefully Bernie Sanders doesn’t pass voting reform for prisoners like he wanted to do in the past

Based on history the GOP has the advantage going into 2022.

The Presidents party losing seats is the rule rather than the exception in the midterms...

Yep. When you can't sell four decades of your policy failures to voters anymore..resort to the old standby's. Voter suppression and gerrymandering! :)
But...that still may not be enough to stem the steamroller of forward progress the Democrats are making. As far as time to 2022, it may as well be
the Grand Canyon. Keep in mind, there are large swaths of "red" in California, New York, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. Even Illinois has large areas of red.
The redrawn seats will have to come out of blue districts. So far, that's not 100% clear.

I said all along that I expect the (D)'s to lose the House because that is what Nancy does but while WV will lose a seat, it will be a GOP seat so there can not be a pickup there.

I've already heard stories of the Census people trying to 'message' the numbers. They said Texas was possible to 3 new seats, not only 1. Same with Florida.

In fact, every 'Red' state was gaining big until the powers that be realized it.

New York was going to lose two, now only 1. Same with California. They were going to lose 3 now it's only 1.

They are already playing games. The GOP better have lawyers in the wings waiting.

Redistricting alone could give the Democratic Party a twenty-vote majority in the House.

Voters with common sense should give the House to the GOP in 2022. Redistricting after you've already done redistricting is a gamble. When trying to turn district one from blue to red while keeping district two red, you can only shift so many voters. If you shift too many, it backfires and district two turns from red to blue.

You lost me. LOL
