Reagan's True Legacy: Terminating the American Dream

Well, if you describe the American dream as "socialist utopia" then you're right, he did terminate that.

If you describe the American dream as our Founders did as self government, he did much to encourage that.

If you don't govern yourself, who is really to blame for that?

So raising taxes, granting amnesty to illegal aliens, retreating from Lebanons terrorists after they killed 200+ Marines, and negotiating with terrorists (and giving the Stinger missiles) is what the Founders thought of as "The American Dream"? :cuckoo:

Well I know growing up My American dream was to be TAXED out the wazoo and become a SLAVE to our Federal Government.

you betcha, I had a dream

that article is a joke and so is the person who wrote it.

Wait.

In this very thread we have two ignorant buffoons from the same side of the political aisle. One is saying that Reagan decreased taxes. The other is saying he increased taxes.

Can you two get on the same page?

Also, to one of the buffoons: If the federal deficits are because of the corporate tax rate, why is it we still have one of the highest in the world at 35% for federal and up to 12% on top of THAT for the states?

The answer isn't to tax even more you moron. Tell your people to fucking stop spending.

Actually, when he granted amnesty to the illegals, the borders were to be protected against more illegals entering....well we all know that Congress didn't follow through on that. I don't think you can blame Reagan on that.....although it was a good idea if everything would have fell into place. We wouldn't be having the problems today if it had been done right.

In wingnut world, Reagan was a great president because he got snookered on amnesty. :cuckoo:

In wingnut world, you can't blame Reagan for trusting politicians who can't be trusted.:cuckoo:

okey dokey, did that make ANY sense?:cuckoo:

Specific to topic, I can think of 3 items changing in the American Dream:

Pre-Reagan, America had a steel industry.
Post-Reagan, little steel industry left to speak of.

Pre-Reagan, America had a viable U.S. auto industry.
Post Reagan, mostly Japanese autos being bought.

Pre-Reagan, small retailers still existed in large numbers.
Post-Reagan, corporate chain retailers mushroomed.

No, it doesn't make any sense

It makes no sense to say that "you can't blame Reagan" for trusting Congress.

But that's what the wingnuts believe

The American auto industry actually died in the 70's. It was reborn in the later 80's.

But don't let that stop you from blaming it on Reagan. Wow. He sure was an all-powerful dude, huh?

Who was in control of the house and senate? Dems that's who.
Regan had to work with them.

Congress forced Reagan to grant amnesty to illegals
Congress forced Reagan to trust that Congress would close our borders
Congress forced Reagan to negotiate with the terrorists in Iran
Congress forced Reagan to give stinger missiles to terrorists in Iran
Congress forced Reagan to raise taxes
Congress forced Reagan to send troops to Lebanon
Congress forced Reagan to cut and run from Lebanon when the terrorist killed 200+ Marines

This is what wingnuts believe. They call it "personal responsibility"
