Open doors for the American dream. Reagan’s last speech as president (1989).

To be clear, I am not a fan of Reagan. He has benefitted enormously, from a reputational standpoint, by a massive amount of revisionist history written about him by conservative media. This rhetorical mythology has sainted a deeply flawed, simplistic, ideologue who served the interests of the men behind his rise to the presidency.

But to his credit he did have an understanding of the contributions to the country made by immigrants. And he possessed the courage to do something about it.

A Reagan Legacy: Amnesty For Illegal Immigrants

trump fans likely regard Reagan's attitude towards immigrants as deeply flawed. I regard it as one of his only redeeming qualities.

Now, we have stuff like this.

Stephen Miller seemed floored by the idea, raised during a fall Cabinet meeting in 2018, of  keeping open the doors for Afghan allies and other Middle East refugees to enter the US.

ā€œWhat do you guys want?ā€ Miller, then a top adviser to President Donald Trump, asked incredulously, according to one person in the room. ā€œA bunch of Iraqs and ā€˜Stans across the country?ā€

His words stunned many in the meeting, but they were no accident. Under Miller’s guidance, several sources told CNN, the Trump administration was purposefully slow-walking the entry of all refugees – including allies who aided American soldiers in Afghanistan.

That amnesty was supposed to come coupled with strict border enforcement to follow, which we go stiffed on.

If you shitlibs couldn't lie out your asses, you'd have nothing to say.

That should have been the lesson for the ages when dealing with dems.....And they were not near as bat-shit crazy as they are now.

Reagan should have learned the lesson of his first term, when he was promised spending cuts with the tax cuts and they never materialized.

He got rolled again with the amnesty scam.

There is a difference between letting in "legit refugees" and letting in

2 battalions of Chinese military age men
hoards of drug dealing violent murderous Latino gang bangers
10k+ convicted murderers
10k+ convicted rapists
100k+ mental patients

No POTUS or person fucked this nation over like Reagan did.
Reagan was a piece of dogshit who should have hanged or died in prison for committing treason against America at the highest level.

The left has written so many lies about Ronald Reagan, even they don't know the truth anymore.

Wait, they never did. My bad.

Dems only pretend to compromise, fully intending to screw you over. You can't trust anything they say. Dems have been caught red handed on tape, laughing and giddy stating they will pretend to compromise with Republicans on legislation...then immediately run to the courts after and screw the Republicans over.

I think liberals deliberately mix legal immigrants who have undergone a lengthly and through process to reach this country with lawless aliens who show up at our border demanding entry

Reagans speech was for legal immigrants not illegal aliens

Its so dishonest

The US was hurt by Reagan's short sighted energy policy for decades. He's responsible for the demise of the middle class, tax cuts leading to the beginning of a cycle of enormous deficit spending, the S&L crisis, Iran-Contra, the HUD scandal, the EPA scandal, and the scandal involving former members of his admin illegally lobbying. Reagan had a diminished mental state in most of his second term, and oversaw the most corrupt admin of the 20th century.

No, he wasn't. He is a result of what transpired before him in legislation, policies and foreign entanglements. Other Presidents are affected also. It is just what is true and what is not true as there are screw ups an administration can make. Reagan had a much better administration than Joe. Joe is the first near total woke administration in history. And many are not very good. So, we see differences in times of crisis. Progs started most of this as they use it for propaganda. Attack mercilessly. Some Republicans learned from it and even took advantage of it. Talk radio was part of it as they gave it back. They still were in defensive mode as they knew the Republicans did not have commanding control of near everything in politics, media and entertainment. As progs did crazy things, Republican radio hosts could not help but laugh while reporting it. Reagan's SDI was ingenious. Too bad it was stopped and attacked and called Star Wars as the policy was smeared. We actually miniaturized components needed to reduce the size of any potential weapon or piece of equipment and we had the option to make the much smaller and stopped at that time. The taxes for the common citizen were too high and he fixed it. He could not stop the export of our once hegemony of garments, auto, steel electronics, and tech corporations at that time as we were losing or lost competitive and quality control issues with much of it. The Japanese were laughing at us at the time. South Korea was on the rise. Just a decade or so earlier they were an agrarian culture. We still have ghettos from the same era they were agrarian. Now they are a world leader in many things. And we still have the ghettos. Ghettos, ghettos, ghettos.

Big business warns Trump against mass deportation

WASHINGTON — Still grappling with Donald Trump’s surprise election, the nation’s business community has begun to pressure the president-elect to abandon campaign-trail pledges of mass deportation and other hard-line immigration policies that some large employers fear would hurt the economy.

The push, led by an advocacy group backed by New York billionaire Michael Bloomberg and media mogul Rupert Murdoch, is still in its infancy as the business world struggles to understand the tough-talking Trump’s true intentions on an issue that defined his outsider campaign. Some groups, such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, are holding off, doubtful that Trump will actually create a deportation force, as he suggested before his election, to expel those estimated 11 million immigrants in the country illegally.
