About 1.3 million children will get free school meal vouchers during the holidays, following a campaign by footballer Marcus Rashford.
The Manchester United forward, 22, welcomed the six-week voucher for eligible children, saying: "Look at what we can do when we come together."
Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said the move was a "welcome U-turn".
Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised Mr Rashford's "contribution to the debate around poverty".

A crushing defeat for our useless government.

This isnt the first u turn we have seen from them. It isnt even the first this month.

It astonishes me that they decide to follow cruel policies in order to fund tax cuts for their backers. But when the public hears about them they back down a day or two later. This youngster has a high profile playing for Manchester United and he has struck a chord with the British public who generally like to see poor folk looked after. The government would like to see poor folk gassed if possible but that is not good policy.

Its good to see a high profile celeb take a minute to speak up for those without a voice.

Well done young man.

Marcus is popular not just cos he's a Man Utd & England star but seems like a pretty savvi and cool young guy
and you can bet it is Dominic Cummings who told Boris (who didn't have a clue) to buy into the popularism
Marcus is about!

Still it is a coup for the young star!

Mini-Trump even claimed he wasn't aware of Rashford's campaign and can't even be bothered to go to (or even participate via Zoom) COBRA meetings, useless twat.

I think the tories have reached that level of arrogance we last saw in 97. Big majority and weak opposition. They think that they can get away with anything because, basically, they have done for a while now.
We are now living in a tory world and people dont like it.
