Question about building websites

In the site window should the index.html be the same as homepage.html? What I mean to say should I build the homepage in index.html or create a another file alltogether for the homepage?

I am using AdobeGoLive if it makes any difference.

Another question I have is how do I center the page so that when it is opened in any browser it is not aligned to the left?
