My neighbor is at er vet with Pyrenees...her leg is broken..vet telling him Knoxville is only place with vet who will do the ortho surgery..quotes 4800 0n top of 600 bill with er vet..vet says she never be able to put full weight on repaired leg..I suggested amputation..it's a front leg

Oh man, that is a hard decision. A lot depends on the dog's age and overall physical condition. Most of the impact in movement is on the front end, and she will need good hindquarters to make up for it. Tripods do well (I had one) but it is harder on bigger dogs. if she can afford it, I'd seek a second opinion first with an ortho.
