You know, I'm waiting to see which happens in the next 3 to 6 months, either Trump caves in and takes off the tariffs, or he will keep them in place and crash the economy. Either way, he's screwed. If he stops the tariffs, his base will rise up against him for being a wimp and caving in to China. If he tanks the economy, he won't be reelected.
Either way, he's screwed, because he painted himself into a corner.
You are the one who is screwed if you think that allowing China to destroy the manufacturing base of this country is Ok.
What manufacturing base? Most of the jobs that were sent to China was done a long time ago, under both Republican and Democrat presidents. Matter of fact it was started by Nixon (a Republican).
And, my Grandparents were big believers in buying American wherever they could, which is why my Grandfather ordered his boots from Red Wing and wore clothes from Dickies. But, sadly, now Red Wing only makes about 29 percent of their product from American supplies, made with American labor, and Dickies are made mainly overseas. Both used to be made here in America.
Matter of fact, that is one of the reasons I chose to ride Trek bicycles, as their frames are built here, and the bikes are assembled here, but good luck in finding bike components made by American manufacturers. You might be able to find a stem, or maybe a seat post made here, but nothing in the drivetrain (derailers and brakes), as those are made in Japan (Shimano) or Europe (most other bike companies).
Matter of fact, good luck in finding clothing that is made here in the US that won't cost you an arm and a leg.
Sorry, but most manufacturing has left, and I don't really see anyone being willing to invest in building and tooling the factories required to bring it back.
