No, he doesn't. And I'm pretty sure his remarks here are not to benefit Trump but to bash Biden for supporting the Ukraine.

But I believe Putin respected Trump and would never have gone after the Ukraine if Trump was in office now. He could be hoping Trump would withdraw support for the Ukraine if he wins next year.

Trump would fire back insults or pointed comments when insulted or threatened by political opponents both here and abroad. But his philosophy of political policy was whenever possible to keep lines of communication open and solicit cooperation from other countries instead of making adversaries of them. And it worked. We had the closest thing to world peace during his administration than at any time in my lifetime.

When it couldn't work--think Iran--he used believable threats that also worked.
