I sure many oldsters here remember when Schlitz was a decent cheap beer. IMHO it had a much better taste than Budweiser. It's heyday was before all the "lite" beers hit the market.

Then it was sold to Stroh and it became as much of a "skunk beer" as Strohs was.....It never recovered even after Pabst bought it.

Q: Why don't women drink beer on the beach?
A: Because they'll get sand in their Schlitz.

I never liked the taste of it anyway. But beer requires water and water is now the exclusive property of Data Centers. Not sure if that has anything to do with it but it wouldn't be surprising. The dismal economy can't be much of a help.

In any event ... sad when a historical company folds under pressure.

Blatz, Hamm's, Meister Brau, Falstaff, Keystone, Olympia, Kreuger, Miller High Life, Red Dog, Pete's Wicked Ale....all gone.

I was never a fan of Schlitz. To me it was right there with Blatz and Old Milwaukee. Off tasting.
Stroh's was the worst. Nasty swill. It is still available, but it is not the original recipe, and hasn't been since 1999.

Red Dog was fake beer. What I mean by that, it was made to appear like a craft beer, but certainly was not. It was awful.
All of the other beers, besides MHL, were cheap beers, no less cheaper than the majors, but they never got the clean taste down like BMC did. (Bud/Miller/Coors)
All of them are watered down beer. Literally all macro lagers are lager beers with more water added. Often adding corn and or rice to lower the "beer flavor" even more.
