This whole thing, like a lot of others, can be distilled into one thing: you either trust your government, or you don't., and that depends totally upon your interpretation of what has happened in the past. Has the government been upfront in the past, or has there been deception and manipulation that leaked out later, and sometimes much later? The words 'classified', 'need to know', protect sources and methods', 'national security', etc all have valid uses, but have they been abused in the past? Would people in power take advantage of that? Is that a human trait, or would we actually find out from them if they did?
