House Democrats are turning up the pressure on oil companies as high gas prices continue to hurt drivers, with a congressional hearing planned for April to question oil executives.
Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash, told Fox News there's "clear profiteering" from oil companies, pointing to the price of crude oil dropping but gas prices still staying high. Democrats want to see that savings passed onto the consumers, she said.
"We go after corporate America because corporate America is often profiteering," said Jayapal, the chair of the House Progressive Caucus, which counts Squad reps as members.

That happens to be a fact and it is undeniable. Oil companies are deliberately keeping supplies low. The number of oil rigs that were in operation were around 800 pre-pandemic. It dropped to around 250 in March of 2020 due to the drop in demand. In 2022, the number of rigs in operation were around 650. The question is why have these rigs not been out in operation. The answer is simple. It keeps supply low and prices high. Oil executives even admit that more drilling is not a high priority.

Oil companies already have 9,000 leases that they have not used. The idea that if we give them more leases then they will increase drilling. It will not happen.

Trillions of dollars were printed for big business. Ordinary people got none of the money that the federal reserve created.

Here in California, we're paying about $1.81 in taxes on each gallon of gasoline.

And that does not include the additional costs imposed by various state and federal regulatory burdens imposed on the oil companies.
