Heavy metal is, for all intents and purposes dead. The days of arenas filled with white people listening to white people play and perform are gone. Hip hop and rap is king (for the moment.) So blacks get all the fame and glory and babes, whites who used to get into the heavy metal long-hair scene are now relegated to the discount bins of music history. And while whites account for the overwhelming majority of hip hop fans, the ones making the scene aren't white.

Could envy and missing the 'good ol days' of white heavy metal bands play a role in contemprary racism?

Metal isn't dead. It just evolved and went underground, where it belongs. It wouldn't be as "metal" if it was mainstream lol
